    摘要: A magnetic disc device includes a magnetic disc, a magnetic head and an actuator. A ramp portion is provided for retracting the magnetic head when recording/reproducing operation is not performed. The ramp portion is arranged on a running path of the magnetic head on an external side of the magnetic disc so that a part of the ramp portion protrudes to an upper part of the outer periphery of the magnetic disc. A load-bar lubrication layer is formed on the surface of a load bar provided at the leading edge of the magnetic head. A head lubrication layer is formed on a head-slider plane of a head slider of the magnetic head. The load-bar lubrication layer reduces a dynamic friction coefficient with the ramp portion surface and suppresses occurrence of abrasion power, and the head lubrication layer suppresses adhesion of abrasion powder to the head-slider plane.

    摘要: Formation of wear powder caused by wear of a ramp which is attributable to mutual contact of a lift tab and the ramp is to be reduced in loading and unloading operations. In one embodiment, a spindle motor is turned on by application of power, then the temperature of a ramp is measured and it is determined whether the temperature of the ramp has reached a preset temperature (about 25° C.) or not. If the answer is negative, a heater is energized to heat the ramp for raising the temperature of the ramp. When it is detected that the temperature of the ramp has reached the preset temperature, the heating of the ramp is stopped and the execution of loading and unloading operations is permitted, then an ordinary processing is started.

    摘要: In some embodiments of the present invention, a disk drive includes a rotatable data storage disk, a head, and a controller. The head is configured to fly on an air cushion relative to a data recording surface of the rotating disk while writing data to the data recording surface responsive to a write command from a host device or while reading data from the data recording surface to generate a read signal responsive to a read command from the host device. The controller is configured to measure flying height of the head relative to the data recording surface of the disk in response to sensing power-up of the disk drive and/or a shut-down command from the host device. The controller may measure the flying height in response to sensing power-up of the disk drive and, subsequent to measuring the flying height, may generate a ready signal to the host computer that indicates that the disk drive has powered-up and is ready to receive read/write commands from the host computer.

    摘要: A disk drive system including retract logic for control of the voice coil motor in a retract operation, in which the voice coil motor positions the read/write head actuator arm in a safe place in a loss-of-power event, is disclosed. The retract logic includes circuitry for controlling the application of power to the voice coil motor from an external capacitor, so that a constant voltage is maintained across the voice coil motor. Current from the capacitor is directed to an internal variable resistor that conducts a selected current, in parallel with the current applied to the voice coil motor. The voltage developed across the variable resistor is applied to one input of a control amplifier, which receives the voltage across the voice coil motor at another input; the control amplifier in turn controls the gate of a low side transistor. The transistor passes current to the extent that the voltage across the voice coil motor corresponds to that developed across the variable resistor.

A first pulse is provided to a voice coil motor causing the heads to move toward a parked position. After the first pulse, the VCM current is reduced substantially (e.g., close to zero) and back EMF in the voice coil motor is measured to determine speed of the heads. The voice coil motor is iteratively pulsed, and back EMF is measured between pulses to track a desired velocity profile to park the heads.

During unloading, a portion of the tab offset from the center in the transverse direction of the tab first comes into contact with the sliding surface of the ramp. The load beam has a flange formed to be bent and continuously from the front end portion of the tab up to both ends of the head support portion.
