Abstract: An I/O board of a VXLAN switch receives a multicast data packet having a first VXLAN encapsulation, removes the first VXLAN encapsulation, determines that layer 3 multicast forwarding is to be performed for the multicast data packet, and sends the multicast data packet to a fabric board. The fabric board determines that layer 3 multicast forwarding is to be performed for the multicast data packet. When a multicast group member port corresponding to the multicast data packet is a VXLAN tunnel port, the fabric board modifies a source MAC address of the multicast data packet and sends the modified multicast data packet to an I/O board corresponding to the multicast group member port. The I/O board corresponding to the multicast group member port adds a second VXLAN encapsulation to the multicast data packet and forwards the multicast data packet having the second VXLAN encapsulation to a VXLAN.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is executed by a network device in a source packet in routing (SPRING) network. The method is to establish a multipoint to multipoint multicast distribution tree where the network device is selected as a rendezvous point for the multipoint to multipoint multicast distribution tree. The method includes advertising the rendezvous point with a multicast group identifier and multicast segment identifier via a control plane protocol, receiving at least one interest registration from receivers of the multicast group via the control plane protocol, and constructing the multipoint to multipoint multicast distribution tree with the rendezvous point as a root and each of the receivers as leaves using unicast tunnels and replication points.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for enabling sub-seconds link failure detection in a multi-chassis link aggregation group (MC-LAG) system are described. A first network device of a packet network transmits a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) encapsulated packet over a first link that is part of the MC-LAG, where the MC-LAG couples the first network device with a second network device and a third network device and the second and third network devices are part of an inter-chassis redundancy (ICR) system. The MPLS encapsulated packet includes a generic associated channel header (ACH) and a payload, and where the payload includes a bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) control packet.

Since all multicast packets have a Global Route Header (GRH), there is always both a source GID and a source LID defined for an incoming multicast packet. This implies that it is, in general, possible for an HCA implementation to gather information about GID and GUID to LID mappings for any sender node based on all incoming MC packets.

Abstract: Example methods are provided for a host to perform multicast packet handling in a logical network. The method comprise in response to detecting a request to join a multicast group address, a hypervisor modifying the request by replacing a first address associated with a virtualized computing instance with a second address associated with the hypervisor; and sending the modified request to join the multicast group address on behalf of the virtualized computing instance. The method may also comprise: in response to detecting an egress multicast packet, the hypervisor encapsulating the egress multicast packet with an outer header that is addressed from the second address to the multicast group address; and sending the encapsulated egress multicast packet via one or more multicast-enabled network devices that are capable of forwarding, based on the outer header, the encapsulated egress multicast packet to one or more destinations that have joined the multicast group address.
