    摘要: Systems for producing articles from glass tube include a converter having a base with a plurality of processing stations and a turret moveable relative to the base. The turret indexes a plurality of holders for holding the glass tubes successively through the processing stations. The systems further include a gas flow system or a suction system for producing a flow of gas through the glass tube during one or more heating, forming, separating or piercing operations. The flow of gas through the glass tube produced by the gas flow system or suction system may be sufficient to evacuate or purge volatile constituents of the glass from the glass tube and/or pierce a meniscus formed on the glass tube during separation, thereby reducing the Surface Hydrolytic Response (SHR) of the interior surface of the glass tube and articles made therefrom.

    摘要: The invention provides method and apparatus for supporting hot glass tubing drawn from a source of molten glass, on a cushion of air. A horizontally elongated chamber is disposed beneath the drawpath of the tubing and an elevated air pressure is maintained in the chamber. The top wall of the chamber defines a V notch in vertical cross section within which the tubing is disposed and one or more openings or slots traversing the vertex portion of the top wall provide an upward flow of air from the chamber to support the tubing being drawn. The dimensions of the openings are selected as a function of the range of diameter and weight of the glass tubing to be supported and the air pressure is selected as a function of the same variables. Air flow cooling of the top portions of the tubing may be provided to reduce bow.

    摘要: The invention relates to a machine for making containers from glass tubes, with several chucks circulating through a succession of processing stations, each chuck having jaws to grip a glass tube or container, and with the chucks being brought successively to a position in which they are superposed above a stationary supporting plate at at least one processing station, this plate being for limiting downward movement of the length of tube which falls downwards through the chuck, wherein the chucks move up and down on at least one circulating column, the processing station which has the supporting plate being equipped with a senser which triggers a releasing device which releases the chuck which has reached this station, so that it moves downwards, the senser responding to the absence of a tube above the upper surface of the jaws of the chuck by initiating downward movement of the chuck.

A method of firepolishing sets forth the transferring, rotating, heating and cooling steps required in sequentially firepolishing pluralities of alternating, axially-spaced first and second portions of the tube.

    摘要: A conveyor for elongate objects particularly glass tubes is disclosed. The conveyor is adapted to turn the tubes through 90* so that, while still travelling in the same direction they change from an orientation in line with the direction of movement to an orientation transverse the direction of movement. The conveyor includes a chain mounted on two parallel sprockets one above the other, and carrying a plurality of movable supports which are free to rotate over a limited range about a substantially vertical axis. The movable supports lift the objects in their initial orientation, rotate through 90* guided by guide members as they are lifted by the chain, and transfer the glass tubes to another conveyor, moving parallel to the production line, in their new orientation transverse the direction of movement of the conveyor.
