A process of manufacturing particles which process comprises the following steps in combination A. FEEDING INTO A CLOSED REACTOR A NUTRIENT, A RECYCLE OF PARTICLES FROM STEP (C) AND OPTIONALLY ADDING SEED MATERIAL; B. ALLOWING THE RECYCLED PARTICLES TO GROW INTO LARGER PARTICLES AND SEPARATING THE RESULTANT PARTICLES INTO SIZED FRACTIONS; AND C. RECYCLING PARTICLES OF LESS THAN A CERTAIN PREDETERMINED SIZE TO STEP (A) AND REMOVING PARTICLES LARGER THAN A CERTAIN PREDETERMINED SIZE AS PRODUCT. Apparatus wherein this process may be carried out is also described.

WASHED AND DRIED FLUOROPOLYMER PARTICLES FREE OF ANY HARMFUL IMPURITIES CAN BE PREPARED EFFICIENTLY FROM A LATEX BY A PROCESS WHICH COMPRISES THE FOLLOWING STEPS: (A) PROVIDING A LATEX OF A NORMALLY SOLID FLUOROPOLYMER (E.G., AN ELASTOMERIC COPOLYMER OF TETRAFLUOROETHYLENE AND A SUITABLE ETHER OR OLEFIN MONOMER), (B) MIXING THE LATEX WITH A COAGULATING AGENT (E.G., MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE) AND OPTIONALLY WITH AN ALIPHATIC ALCOHOL, (C) PASSING THE RESULTING SLURRY INTO A FIRST HOT WATER BATH WHILE PASSING STEAM THEREIN IN CONTACT WITH THE FLUOROPOLYMER TO FORM FLOATING EASY-TO-FILTER FLUOROPOLYMER PARTICLES, (D) PASSING THE FLOATING FLUOROPOLYMER PARTICLES INTO AT LEAST A SECOND HOT WATER BATH, AND (E) REMOVING WATER FROM THE RESULTING FLOATING AND WASHED FLUOROPOLYMER PARTICLES, FOR EXAMPLE, BY MEANS OF A FILTER AND A DRYING OVEN.

VINYLIDENE FLUORIDE POLYMERS HAVING A CRYSTALLIZATION TEMPERATURE ABOVE 135*C. AND A MELTING TEMPERATURE ABOVE 175*C. ARTICLES SUCH AS FIBERS, FILMS, ETC., MADE FROM SUCH POLYMERS, HAVE EXCELLENT HEAT-RESISTANT PROPERTIES AND HIGH MECHANICAL STRENGTH. THE AFOREMENTIONED POLYMERS MAY BE PRODUCED BY SUSPENSION POLYMERIZING POLYVINYLIDENE FLUORIDE IN A WATER MEDIUM AT A TEMPERATURE PREFERABLY BETWEEN 0*C. AND 30*C. IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST WHICH MAY BE A DIALKYL PEROXY DICARBONATE OR A DIALKYL PEROXY CARBONATE.
摘要:
A VINYLIDENE FLUORIDE POLYMER OBTAINED BY POLYMERIZATION WITH THE USE OF ORGANIC PEROXIDE AS A CATALYST IS SUBJECTED, PRIOR TO DRYING, TO A HEAT TREATMENT AT A TEMPERATURE FROM 70 TO 120 DEGREES C. AND IN THE CONSTANT PRESENCE OF WATER IN ORDER TO CAUSE DECOMPOSITION AND REMOVAL OF RESIDUAL CATALYST, WHEREBY THE THERMAL STABILITY OF THE POLYMER IS GREATLY IMPROVED. THE HEAT TREATMENT CAN BE CARRIED OUT BY INDIRECT HEATING FROM OUTSIDE, BY BLOWING STEAM INTO A SSPENSION OF THE POLYMER IN WATER, OR BY FLUIDIZED TREATMENT OF THE POLYMER WITH STEAM.

3-METHYL-3-TERITARYBUTYLPEROXY BUTYRIC ACID, SALTS AND ESTERS THEREOF ITS PREPARATION AND USE AS A POLYMERIZATION INITIATOR FOR ETHYLENICALLY UNSATURATED MONOMERS IS DESCRIBED.

PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING FLUORO-OLEFIN POLYMERS BY POLYMERIZATION OF FLUORO-OLEFINS IN THE PRESENCE OF ISOBUTYRYL PEROXIDE AS A CATALYST. THE PLYMERIZATION REACTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION PROCEEDS WITH A HIGHER POLYMERIZATION VELOCITY AT A LOWER POLYMERIZATION TEMPERATURE TO GIVE A POLYMER OF A HIGH POLYMERIZATION DEGREE THAN THOSE PLOYMERIZATIONS HITHERTO KNOWN. IT IS ALSO CHARACTERIZED IN THE FACT THT THE FLUORO-OLEFIN POLYMERS OBTAINED BY THE PRESENT PROCESS ARE SUPERIOR IN THE PROPERTIES TO THOSE HITHERTO PRODUCED.

PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF POLYVINYL FLUROIDE WHICH COMPRISES POLYMERIZING VINYL FLUROIDE IN AQUEOUS PHASE AT A TEMPEATURE ABOVE THE CRITCIAL TEMPERATURE OF VINYL FLOURIDE, IN THE PRESENCE OF A WATER SOLUBLE POLYMERIZATION CATALYST AND 0.05 TO 0.5 WT. PERCENT OF TRANS-1,2-DICHLOROETHYLENE BASED ON THE VINYL FLUORIDE.
摘要:
The temperature in the suspension polymerization of fluoroethylene is maintained below its critical temperature during the initial period of the process and is raised above the critical temperature after polymer particles have been formed. In a variation of this method, a supplementary quantity of the monomer is added to the process, beginning at the time the temperature is raised, in a manner to avoid causing large variation in the polymerization pressure. In a further variation of this method, the temperature is raised to a value from 60* to 150* C. in the final period of the polymerization.
