    Abstract: A drilling system for drilling a wellbore using drilling fluid includes a drillstring, a drill bit coupled to the drillstring, and a mud motor coupled to the drillstring and operable to rotate the drill bit by rotating a driveshaft with a bore. The drilling system also includes a bearing assembly that includes a bypass fluid flowpath through the bearings for drilling fluid to divert from the bore. A choke assembly positioned in the bypass fluid flowpath restricts flow of the diverted drilling fluid such that some diverted drilling fluid flows into an annulus in the wellbore outside of the bearing assembly through an unsealed annulus port and some of diverted drilling fluid is recaptured through a return flowline. The drilling system also includes a rotary steerable system operable to push the drill bit in a desired direction using pads extendable with the drilling fluid.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for stochastically projecting a well trajectory of a bottom hole assembly in a subsurface formation, where the bottom hole assembly includes one or more transducers, a trajectory controller coupled to the bottom hole assembly, an information handling system coupled to the transducers, and the information system includes a processor, and a non-transitory computer readable medium for storing one or more instructions that, when executed, causes the processor to receive a first one or more system model parameters from a system model parameter probability distribution; receive a first one or more steering inputs; receive a first one or more values corresponding to the bottom hole assembly initial conditions from the one or more transducers at a first position within a subsurface formation; and stochastically project a trajectory of the bottom hole assembly from the first position within the subsurface formation to a second position within the subsurface formation.

    Abstract: A radial bearing apparatus including a housing with a housing bore defining a radial bearing housing surface, a shaft extending through the housing bore and defining a radial bearing shaft surface, and a radial bearing contact interface between the radial bearing housing surface and the radial bearing shaft surface for bearing a variable side force applied to the shaft. The radial bearing contact interface includes an oblique section in which the radial bearing housing surface and the radial bearing shaft surface are oblique to each other when the side force is zero and progressively increase in contact in an axial direction in response to an increasing magnitude of the side force.

    Abstract: A pressure pulse generator and an RSS may change the pressure of a fluid flow through a BHA. If the dogleg at the BHA is less than a target dogleg, then the pressure pulse generator goes into pass-through mode to increase the pressure at the RSS and thereby increase a pad force of the RSS steering pads, increasing the severity of the dogleg. If a downhole tool is stuck, then the pressure pulse generator and the RSS are simultaneously actuated to unstick the downhole tool. The RSS is used to generate and transmit pressure pulses to a downhole tool.

    Abstract: Aspects of the disclosed technology provide techniques for determining frictional forces bearing on a downhole drill string. In some implementations, a method of the disclosed technology can include steps for segmenting a plurality of continuous nodes of the drilling string into a first segment and a second segment, computing a first set of values corresponding with one or more nodes in the first segment using a first model, computing a second set of values corresponding with one or more nodes in the second segment using a second model, and determining a torque of the drill string based on the first set of values and the second set of values. In some aspects, the method can further include steps for determining a drag force on the drill string based on the first set of values and the second set of values. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.
