摘要: Instrumentation and method for surgically preparing the natural capitellum of an elbow joint to receive a capitellum prosthesis in elbow arthroplasty, including a reference pin that is first inserted into the natural capitellum along an axis extending through its spherical articulating surface and the approximate center of the partial sphere generally defining the natural capitellum. Cutting instruments, including an end cutting mill, an anterior/posterior cutting guide, and a chamfer jig cooperate with the reference pin to permit resurfacing of the natural capitellum in a manner to create a surface geometry corresponding in shape to the mounting surface of a capitellum prosthesis. The reference pin and cutting instruments are removed, after which the capitellum prosthesis is attached to the natural capitellum by fitting the mounting surface of the capitellum prosthesis to the mounting surface established on the natural capitellum.

摘要: A scissor action low profile hand instrument includes a first member pivotably attached to a second member at a pivot point. The instrument has a surgical tip separated from a handle by a middle section. A centerline passing through the pivot point separates each half of the handle and each half of the surgical tip. The middle section of the instrument includes switchback segments that are positioned on opposite sides of the centerline. The switchback segments allow the instrument to retain a relatively small maximum width over a large portion of its middle section when moved from a closed position to a spread position.

摘要: An oscillating surgical saw and instrumentation system has an oscillating surgical saw and instrumentation for guiding the saw. The oscillating saw has a body or handle having guide pin holders disposed on opposite sides thereof and extending longitudinally therealong. Retractable guide pins are mounted in the guide pin holders. Resilient means are disposed in each guide pin holder which force the respective guide pin mounted therein longitudinally outward. The system further includes instrumentation for guiding the saw. The instrumentation comprises at least one cutting block. The cutting block is affixed to the bone being cut and has holes, which are preferably slots, for receiving the guide pins. These slots lie in planes which are parallel to planes in wich resected surfaces of the bone lie after they have been formed by cuts made to the bone. When the saw is used to cut bone, the cutting block is secured to the bone and the guide pins inserted into the holes in the cutting block. The cutting block and guide pins cooperate to secure the saw, cutting block, and bone against movement in all planes except the plane in which the saw is cutting to reduce the transmission of vibration from the bone being cut through the saw. The associated guide pin holes guide the saw blade as it cuts bone. As the saw blade cuts progressively deeper into the bone, the guide pins are forced into their guide pin holders so as not to interfere with the advancement of the saw blade into the bone.

摘要: One embodiment of the invention is demineralized bone putty composition comprises: (1) demineralized bone matrix (DBM); and (2) a lipid fraction selected from the group consisting of lecithin and a mixture of lecithin and triglycerides containing unsaturated fatty acids. The putty composition is moldable, biocompatible, slowly resorbable, insoluble in tissue fluids, and non-extrudable. The composition delivers a biologically active product to animals and humans that will enhance bone formation at sites where bone is lost, deficient, or present in suboptimal amounts. The composition can further comprise calcium, an antioxidant such as Vitamin E or Vitamin C, or a hydrophilic polymer such as methylcellulose, a methylcellulose derivative, carboxymethyl cellulose, or hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. A second embodiment of the invention is a demineralized bone paste composition comprising: (1) about 15% to about 75% of an emulsion carrier, such as an aqueous phase; and (2) a bone-material-containing phase comprising: (a) demineralized bone matrix (DBM); and (b) an emulsifier component that is compatible with lipids. This bone paste composition is moldable, biocompatible, slowly resorbable, miscible with bone graft materials, soluble or partially soluble in tissue fluids, and extrudable.

摘要: An applicator for applying a multi-component bio-material including at least two containers. Both containers are held in a structure or oriented in a structure such that material contained in the containers can be expressed from oriented outlets simultaneously. The applicator includes a graspable member which allows the material to be expressed from all containers of the applicator substantially simultaneously. The applicator may be constructed such that a pre-selected and substantially different volume is expressed from each of the containers substantially simultaneously.

摘要: A device is described for joining a first phalange to a second adjacent phalange, such as the proximal phalange to the intermediate phalange at the proximal interphalangeal joint. The device is a substantially elongated member comprised of a resorbable material, such as, but not limited to polylactic acid, polyglycolic acid, and combinations thereof. The member has a first end portion, a middle portion, and second end portion spaced and opposed from the first end portion. The middle portion has a curvature such that an angle is formed between the first end portion and the second end portion, wherein the angle is substantially anatomically correct with respect to the particular joint, such as the proximal interphalangeal joint.

摘要: A method and apparatus for packaging, mixing and delivering bone cement formed from at least a first component and a second component includes a first container, a second container and a mixing member. The first container is operable to be selectively opened and closed and further operable to be sealably prepackaged with the first component of the bone cement. The second container is operable to deliver the second component of the bone cement to the first container. The mixing member forms a part of the first container and is operable to mix the first and second components of the bone cement substantially within only the first container.
