Abstract:
A temperature sensor includes a temperature probe, an adapter, a resilient device, and a visual indicator. The temperature probe includes a temperature sensing device disposed at a temperature probe tip. The adapter surrounds a portion of the temperature probe such that the temperature probe is movable within the adapter in a lengthwise direction. The adapter includes a physical reference. The resilient device is adapted to produce a force between the adapter and the temperature probe. The force being variable based on a position of the temperature probe within the adapter. The visual indicator is disposed on a surface of the temperature probe. Alignment of the visual indicator with the physical reference corresponds to a desired force produced by the resilient device.

A magnetic flowmeter for measuring flow of a process fluid includes a meter body having an opening formed therein. The meter body is configured to be inserted in-line between process piping which carries the process fluid. A moveable extension is coupled to the meter body and configured to extend into the process piping. A coil of wire is carried by the extension and configured to generate a magnetic field. A pair of electrodes sense an EMF in the process fluid generated as a function of the applied magnetic field and flow of the process fluid.
Abstract:
A process transmitter includes at least one sensor which monitors a process variable, and analog-to-digital (A/D) converter circuitry coupled to the at least one sensor and configured to provide process variable data indicative of process variable values. A digital signal processor (DSP) is coupled to the A/D converter circuitry to receive the process variable data. The DSP comprises a co-processor configured to receive and perform calculations on the process variable data from the A/D converter circuitry to generate output data. Communications circuitry of the process transmitter is configured either to control communication over loop wiring which can be coupled to the process transmitter, or to control wireless communications with the process transmitter. A microprocessor, separate from the co-processor of the DSP, is coupled between the co-processor and the communications circuitry to control movement of the output data from the DSP to the communications circuitry.

A method and system for monitoring an entity within a process plant includes collecting entity status data pertaining to the status of an entity within the process plant collecting criticality data pertaining to the importance of the entity within the process plant, and using the entity status data and the criticality data to perform a function within the process plant.
Abstract:
A process variable transmitter is configured as a flowmeter for measuring flow of a process fluid through a conduit. The transmitter includes a pitot tube extending into the conduit which creates a differential pressure in the process fluid due to flow of the process fluid. An upstream process variable sensor is mounted on the pitot tube and coupled to the flow of process fluid to sense an upstream process variable of the process fluid. A downstream process variable sensor is mounted on the pitot tube downstream of the upstream process variable sensor and coupled to the flow of process fluid to sense a downstream process variable of the process fluid. Measurement circuitry determines the flow of the process fluid based upon the upstream process variable and the downstream process variable.
Abstract:
A process variable transmitter for measuring a temperature in an industrial process includes an infrared detector arranged to receive infrared radiation from a component in the industrial process. A memory contains temperature characterization information which relates the infrared radiation received from the component with an internal temperature of the component. Measurement circuitry is configured to determine the internal temperature of the component based upon the received infrared radiation from the component and the temperature characterization information.
