Abstract:
A commodity feeding apparatus for aligning and selectively feeding a commodity into a packaging station, the feeding apparatus having two advancing systems, one advancing faster than the other and moving selected of the commodities at a faster rate to separate the selected commodities from the remainder thereof and advance same into the packaging station.
Abstract:
A PROCESS IS DESCRIBED IN WHICH MECHANICAL PULPS ARE BLEACHED WITH SODIUM OR ZINC HYDROSULFITE IN THE PRESENCE OF SODIUM SILICATE. THE ADDITION OF SILICATE INCREASES THE BRIGHTNESS GAIN OBTAINED BY HYDROSULFITE ALONE AND REDUCES THE GRINDING POWDER CONSUMPTION. SILICATE CAN THUS REPLACE SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE FOR THIS USE AND THEREBY ELIMINATE PHOSPHATE POLLUTION DUE TO NEWSPRINT OR OTHER PAPER MILL EFFLUENTS.
Abstract:
Method for testing the water absorption characteristics of building board materials, for example, Masonite, in which the rough side of the board is submerged in water and the smooth side subjected to a predetermined vacuum for a predetermined interval of time. The time and vacuum parameters of the method are calculated to achieve as closely as possible the same water absorption and thickness results as are obtained with the standard 24-hour test method.
Abstract:
A controlled process of producing sulfite pulps from wood and other cellulosic material wherein the use of sodium sulfide is avoided and the process pH, i.e., the pH in situ or the so-called hot pH, is measured during the pulping or cooking operation and the alkalinity of the cooking medium is adjusted in response to such measurement in a predetermined manner.
Abstract:
A device for propelling trees or the like along a selected path through one or more processing units, such device consisting of three or more driven rollers mounted on the free ends of respective ones of a plurality of pivotally mounted arms having the free ends movable toward and away from said path to respectively bring the rollers into and out of engagement with a tree located in the path. The rollers are disposed in a generally triangular arrangement and each roller has an outer peripheral surface for tractive engagement with the tree, such tractive surface consisting of an undulated surface provided by a series of cleats extending preferably in a direction perpendicular to the feed path. The cleats permit a tree to shift laterally with respect to the feed path. The cleats permit a tree to shift laterally with respect to the feed path while being fed through the processing units thereby facilitating maintaining the tree in alignment with the feed path.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of selectively feeding and presenting individual packages, processed by a previous packaging operation in alignment for a subsequent wrapping operation. The apparatus includes two different control systems where one or more packages are taken under control of the first control system and presented to a second control system which feeds the packages to the subsequent wrapping operation. The two control systems are driven at different speeds so that a uniform feeding of the aligned packages is presented to the wrapping operation.
