Abstract:
A method and system for asynchronously communicating updated information related to a service to a device is provided. The method may include receiving a service initialization directive or message from the device, establishing a logical service connection on behalf of the device and asynchronously sending the updated information associated with the service to the device.
Abstract:
In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a technique for context translation. According to an aspect of the technique, a mapping is consulted. The mapping maps a first message to a second message. The first message comprises a rule-specific error message that indicates one or more rules that were violated by a portion of a document. The second message comprises a context-specific message that sets forth the meaning of the error message in a particular implementation context. The second message is provided as output. Thus, the rule-specific error message is translated into the context-specific message. According to an aspect of the technique, the mapping is not embodied in executable code. As a result, the mapping can be modified without modifying and recompiling the source code of a program that consults the mapping and outputs the second message.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus of operating an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) may include receiving an AUV in a receptacle of a submersible station. The AUV and the submersible station may be launched to an underwater location. The AUV may engage with the submersible station before, after or during a mission, and may return to the same or a different submersible station after part, or all, of the mission has been completed.
Abstract:
A condenser and a containment vessel adapted to efficiently condense a gas out of a mixture of condensing and non-condensing gases. In condensers, the fraction of gas within a condenser made up of non-condensing gases can be significantly reduced by withdrawing gas from localized regions of relatively low temperature where the mass fraction of non-condensing gases will be relatively high. In containment vessels, pressures can be reduced by providing a large surface area of the liquid into which the condensing gas condenses in a relatively cool region of the containment vessel. Both these effects result from an appreciation of the manner in which non-condensing gases tend to accumulate in regions which are relatively cold.
Abstract:
A device to measure the amount of light able to transmit through a test liquid sample. A single lamp is used to illuminate a liquid sample cell containing the test water. A light detector is fixed relative to the lamp and is used to detect the amount of light from the lamp able to transmit through the liquid sample cell. The liquid sample cell is shaped in such a way as to provide at least two sets of opposed side walls that are able to transmit the light emitted from the lamp, where each set of opposed side walls defines a different path length through the liquid sample in the liquid sample cell. A rotation mechanism is used to provide relative rotation between the liquid sample cell and the lamp/light detector assembly. A microprocessor connected to the light detector calculates the light transmitted through at least two different path lengths through the liquid sample. Using these calculated transmittances the microprocessor then calculates the overall transmittance of the test water.
Abstract:
Techniques for cooling in a data center are provided. In one aspect, a computer equipment rack is provided comprising one or more air inlets; one or more exhaust outlets; and one or more of: an air inlet duct mounted to the computer equipment rack surrounding at least a portion of the air inlets, the air inlet duct having a lateral dimension that approximates a lateral dimension of the computer equipment rack and a length that is less than a length of the computer equipment rack, and an air exhaust duct mounted to the computer equipment rack surrounding at least a portion of the exhaust outlets, the air exhaust duct having a lateral dimension that approximates the lateral dimension of the computer equipment rack and a length that is less than the length of the computer equipment rack.
Abstract:
Provided are methods and apparatus for managing software components on a device when transferring device management responsibilities for the device from a first device management server to a second device management server. The capability to change device management servers while coordinating changes to software components on a managed device may be referred to as application portability. A mobile device in the present disclosure may change device management providers while maintaining access to certain licensed applications managed by a device management server. In an embodiment, a proprietary software component may be removed and a replacement software component installed from a category of applications that comprises the removed proprietary software component and the installed replacement software component. Also provided is a mechanism for managing software components on a mobile device switching network providers by sending configuration changes rather than reloading software components that are substantially similar.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting a particular chemical in a sample, includes placing the sample in contact with a semiconductive material provided on a flow cell. An electrical characteristic of the semiconductive material is detected by an interdigitated electrode, and a first signal indicative thereof of output. An optical characteristic of the semiconductive material is detected by a photodetector and a second signal indicative thereof is output. Based on the first and second signals, it is determined by a processor as to whether or not the particular chemical is present in the sample.

Abstract:
Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for generating templates of nodes to structure content objects and steps to process the content objects. A template is generated having a plurality of first level nodes representing a flow of tasks. A set of second level nodes representing a flow of steps is generated for at least one of the first level nodes to collectively perform the task represented by the first level node. A content object including information for a step represented by the node is associated with at least one node in the second level. Links are generated among the first level nodes and in each set of second level nodes indicating a logical ordering of the nodes and a direction of the flow of the tasks represented by the first level nodes and the flow of steps represented by the second level nodes. An end-user graphical user interface is generated from the generated nodes and links to direct an end user through the flow of tasks and steps represented by the nodes.
