    Abstract: A plasmonic sensor with gradient nanostructures and a method of use thereof is provided. The gradient of shapes will induce different spectral responses at different region of the sensor and show different colors. When there is a change in the environment properties of a substance, such as refractive index, gas concentration or ion density changes, the sensor displays different images, e.g., redial intensity displays and radial color displays. An image recognition based method can be used to extract the environment property with high accuracy according to the sensor image.

    Abstract: Cyclic lipopeptides having one or more modifications relative to daptomycin, and methods of making them are provided. The cyclic lipopeptides can be used as antibacterial agents. The daptomycin analogues are generated by chemical synthesis, which makes introduction of an unnatural amino acid and any modification into daptomycin possible. Pharmaceutical compositions and method of use thereof for the disclosed daptomycin analogues are also provided.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods of use are provided for complex flow imaging and analysis that is non-invasive, accurate, and time-resolved. It is particularly useful in imaging of vascular flow with spatiotemporal fluctuations. This apparatus is an ultrasound-based framework called vector projectile imaging (VPI) that can dynamically render complex flow patterns over an imaging view at millisecond time resolution. The VPI apparatus and methods comprise: (i) high-frame-rate broad-view data acquisition (based on steered plane wave firings); (ii) flow vector estimation derived from multi-angle Doppler analysis (coupled with data regularization and least-squares fitting); and (iii) dynamic visualization of color-encoded vector projectiles (with flow speckles displayed as adjunct).

    Abstract: The composition includes a cyclic, unsaturated compound, preferably a polyphenol derivative. It reduces the synthesis of melanin by inhibiting the activity and expression levels of tyrosinase and related proteins, thereby preventing and limiting the content and distribution of melanin in mammalian skin. It also induces autophagy of melanosome, thereby restricting the synthesis, storage and transfer of melanin from melanocyte to keratinocyte. The dual modes of action allow for the efficacy of the composition at low dosage without causing toxicity to lighten skin and treat disorders associated with hyperpigmentation.
