摘要:
A recording head for use in magnetic storage devices is disclosed. The recording head includes a transducer that is bi-directionally movable with respect to a magnetic medium surface of the magnetic storage medium, thereby enabling improved positioning of the transducer during read and write operations of the transducer. The recording head further includes a wafer assembly having a motor segment and a flexure segment that are joined together. The flexure segment includes a cavity that receives the transducer therein. The recording head further includes a slider body that receives the wafer assembly in a cavity defined therein. A motor located in the motor segment can be selectively actuated to cause movement of the flexure assembly and corresponding movement of the transducer body. Various features regarding the construction and assembly of the recording head are also disclosed to improve head operation, including techniques for preventing head damage during a shock event.

A recording head for use in magnetic storage devices is disclosed. The recording head includes a transducer that is bi-directionally movable with respect to a magnetic medium surface of the magnetic storage medium, thereby enabling improved positioning of the transducer during read and write operations of the transducer. The recording head further includes a slider body and an interleaver assembly that is interposed between the transducer and the slider body. The interleaver assembly includes a flexure assembly having a plurality of resilient flexure beams. A motor assembly incorporated into the recording head can be selectively actuated to cause movement of the flexure assembly and corresponding movement of a portion of the interleaver assembly and the transducer body. The flexure assembly is configured to constrain motion of the transducer in vertical and horizontal directions with respect to the magnetic medium surface to allow for enhanced transducer positioning.

Multiple recording heads are used to perform parallel read and write operations on multiple disk surfaces in disk drives. Small-scale actuators are positioned between the transducer and the macroactuator that moves the entire head gimble assembly. The small-scale actuators adjust the position of the recording heads to the appropriate data tracks during the read and write operations to compensate for misalignments between the multiple recording heads. The parallel read and write operations can significantly improve the sustained data rates associated with disk drives. The access time required to read data stored on a disk can be reduced by writing multiple copies of the same data blocks to different locations on the surface of disks in the disk drives. Read operations are performed by moving the recording head to the copy of the data block that will produce the smallest access time.

A light abrasive texture is applied over the data zone of a thin film magnetic disc, while a surface texture of a second roughness is applied over the landing zone. A lubricant is applied over both the landing zone and the data zone. The lubricant is a high molecular weight PFPE lubricant which has been fractionated by supercritical fluid fractionation in carbon dioxide to exclude the fractions of low molecular weight and to exclude the fractions of very high molecular weight.

A disc storage system includes a rotating disc and a transducer. The transducer is carried on a slider which is supported by an armature. The armature is used to move the slider radially across the disc surface whereby information may be read from or written to the disc surface of the transducer. The slider includes an air bearing surface which faces the disc surface. As the disc rotates, the air bearing surface causes the slider to “fly” over the disc surface. Pads are provided on the air bearing surface to improve operational characteristics of the system.

A magnetic disc for a computer disc drive has distinct zones of differing lubricant thickness. A bonded+mobile zone covers a portion of the disc which preferably coincides with the landing zone. A zone of different lubricant thickness, such as lubricant-free, bonded-only or mostly-bonded, covers a different portion of the disc such as over the data zone. After a uniform layer of lubricant is coated over the disc surface, lubricant can be removed from distinct zones by solvent removal over a periphery of the disc and by removal by laser. The lubricant removal from distinct zones can occur either before or after bonding. Multiple lubricant thickness zones may be used, and the lubricant thickness profile over the entire disc can be controlled as desired.

A load/unload device to remove the slider from the proximity of the magnetic recording surface of a disk in a disk drive whenever the disk is to be stopped. The load/unload device is a ramp-like wedge which extends generally radially from the center of the magnetic disk and to the magnetic recording surface of the magnetic disk. When the slider is moved toward the center of the disk by an actuator mechanism, the end of the load arm supporting the slider, referred to as a tang, will engage the inclined plane of the wedge and lift the slider from the surface of the magnetic disk as the slider is translated closer to the center of the disk. Once the slider has been removed from close proximity of the disk, the tang may engage a trough-like surface on the structure supporting the wedge and will effectively detent the position of the slider through the forces exerted on the tang by the load beam of the actuator. Thus the disk will be protected from undesirable and damaging impacts of the slider against the magnetic recording surface of the disk thereby prolonging disk utility.
