A first conduit connects the low side of a heating/cooling or refrigeration system to the inlet of the booster compressor, the outlet of the booster compressor and the inlet of the primary compressor. A second conduit connects the outlet of the primary compressor to the high side of the system. The first conduit includes a check valve for closing or opening the connection between the first conduit and the outlet of the booster compressor. A sump conduit is positioned near the bottom of the primary and booster compressors to allow lubricant to flow from the booster compressor to the primary compressor.

    摘要: A compressor in accordance with the present invention includes a male rotor which is axially aligned with and in communication with two female rotors. The male rotor is driven by a motor, in other words the male rotor is the drive rotor. The male rotor has a plurality of lobes which intermesh with a plurality of flutes on each of the female rotors. The male rotor comprises an inner cylindrical metal shaft with an outer composite material ring mounted thereon. The ring includes the lobes of the male rotor integrally depending therefrom. The lobes of the male rotor being comprised of a composite material allows positioning of the female rotors at a small clearance from the male drive rotor. This clearance is small enough that the liquid refrigerant itself provides sufficient sealing, cooling and lubrication. The positioning of the female rotors on opposing sides of the male rotor balances the radial loading on the male rotor thereby minimizing radial bearing loads. The interface velocity between the male and female rotors during operation is low, whereby damage suffered as a result of lubrication loss is reduced. The compressor includes a housing having an inlet housing portion, a main housing portion and a discharge housing portion. An induction side plate and a discharge side plate are mounted on the male rotor. The outside diameter of the induction plate is equal to the root diameter of the male rotor. The outside diameter of the discharge plate is equal to the crest diameter of the male rotor. These plates serve two purposes, to secure the male rotor components and to equalize suction pressure at both ends of the male rotor, thereby virtually eliminating the thrust loads. Discharge porting is defined in the discharge housing portion wherein trap pocket relief is provided.

    摘要: Where a helical screw compressor gas or vapor working fluid is not too soluble in the compressor lubricant for compression process cooling, such lubricant after separation from the working fluid and cooled to as a low a temperature as possible and operating at as high a pressure as possible, is fed to an atomizing nozzle and injected into the inlet end of the compressor. This produces a cloud type blanket of cool atomized droplets uniformly dispersed within the suction vapor or gas allowing the highest possible rate of heat transfer to occur during the compression process and achieving the highest possible isothermal efficiency in a gas compression system or operation near vapor saturation values in a refrigeration vapor compression system while avoiding large hydraulic losses in the compressor. Working fluids such as helium, air, and ammonia may provide extremely high superheated gas or vapor at the compressor inlet.

    摘要: Scavenging is applied to a conventional refrigeration cycle to return most of the energy normally remaining in a warm condensed liquid to the cycle. This permits considerably more energy to be picked up in the evaporator of the cycle than under conventional practice. The concept is applicable to any type positive displacement compressor where an intake of evaporator generated gas can be trapped in the compressor, with the scavenged gas then added prior to mechanical compression. The concept is particularly applicable to reciprocating compressor type heat pump systems.

    摘要: A solar-assisted multiple source and multiple sink heat pump system for use in residential homes includes a solar/air coil mounted in the attic of the residential home and selectively open to the attic interior with the attic roof bearing a solar window with selective shield permitting the attic solar space to constitute a passive solar collector. The solar/air coil is positioned within duct work which selectively opens to the attic interior or the outside air to permit thermal energy pick up from the attic solar space or outside air or wasting of heat thereto. The inside air coil is also mounted in a separate duct work within the attic shielded from the attic interior but selectively open thereto and to and from the building interior beneath the attic for adding heat to the building interior or removing the same. One or more thermal storage tanks may constitute heat and cold sinks. Energy amplified by the heat pump may be delivered to inside air, a domestic hot water heater within the building, hydronic heating system water within the building space to be conditioned, the storage system tank media, or alternatively discharged to the outside air through the solar/outside air coil in the case of net requirement for rejection to ambient through the heat pump system. Direct room heating from the solar space or cooling by outside air flow is achieved without heat pump operation, and free-wheeling to and from storage media is provided.

    摘要: A helical screw rotary compressor or expander rotatably mounts intermeshed helical screw rotors within intersecting bores of a casing. An axially extending recess provided within the barrel portion of the casing in open communication with the bore bears a slide valve member whose inner face is complementary to the envelope of the casing. The slide valve member controls communication between the working chamber defined by the rotors and the casing to the outlet port and bears means at the end in communication with the outlet port for sensing the closed thread pressure adjacent to the end of the slide valve member closing off the outlet port. Comparison of that closed thread pressure to the outlet port pressure permits controlled shifting of the slide valve member to prevent overcompression and undercompression, when the unit acts as a compressor, or underexpansion or overexpansion when the unit acts as an expander. The slide valve member carries a bore parallel to its longitudinal axis which bears a cylindrical volume capacity control valve body which shifts to vary flow through axially spaced channels, selectively communicating the working fluid inlet to the bores bearing the intermeshed helical screw rotors. The slide valve member and the volume capacity control valve body carried thereby are independently movable.
