Abstract: A vehicle seat safety system. The vehicle safety seat system comprises a vehicle seat configured to move between a substantially reclining position and a substantially sitting position. The vehicle seat comprises at least a seat back and a seat bottom. The system also includes an enclosure configured to store a blanket airbag in an undeployed position prior to a collision, wherein the enclosure is disposed near the head of a passenger in the vehicle seat, and wherein the blanket airbag is ejected from the enclosure to an intermediate position in the event of a collision. The system further comprises a first electromechanical restraint system associated with the seat back and coupled to the blanket airbag by a first physical coupling and a second electromechanical restraint system associated with the seat bottom and coupled to the blanket airbag by a second physical coupling. The first and second electromechanical restraint systems pull the blanket airbag from the intermediate position to a deployed position in which the blanket airbag substantially covers the passenger.

The method includes: obtaining onboard sensor data from at least one occupant detection sensor, wherein the at least one occupant detection sensor is a biometric sensor, and wherein the onboard sensor data includes data extracted from a sensor response of the biometric sensor; determining an occupant presence classification selected from a plurality of occupant presence classifications based on an evaluation of the onboard sensor data, wherein the evaluation is carried out using occupant detection sensor parameters in combination with the onboard sensor data, and wherein the plurality of occupant presence classifications include an occupant not present classification, an occupant spaced away from seat classification, and an occupant directly on seat classification; and carrying out a vehicle action in response to the determined occupant presence classification.

Abstract: A system and method for detecting seatbelt routing in a motor vehicle safety restraint system. The system includes a seatbelt buckle sensor, an occupant sensor, a seatbelt payout sensor, and a control module. The method includes sensing a presence of a seatbelt latchplate in the seatbelt buckle. Further, the method determines whether the seatbelt is buckled. Additionally, the method includes sensing a presence of occupant in a vehicle seat. Moreover, the method further includes determining whether the occupant is detected in the vehicle seat. The method senses a seatbelt payout length and compares the seatbelt payout length to a first seatbelt payout length threshold. Thereafter, the method determines seatbelt routing based on whether the seatbelt is buckled, an occupant is present, and a seatbelt payout length has exceeded the first seatbelt payout length threshold.

Abstract: A system includes a first webbing payout sensor and a seatbelt wear condition module. The first webbing payout sensor can detect a first webbing payout of a seatbelt associated with a seat of a vehicle. The first webbing payout is a first length of webbing of the seatbelt dispensed from a first retractor of the seatbelt. The seatbelt wear condition module can identify whether the seatbelt is worn correctly based on the first webbing payout. The system may further include a second webbing payout sensor that detects a second webbing payout of the seatbelt associated with the seat. The second webbing payout is a second length of webbing of the seatbelt dispensed from a second retractor of the seatbelt. The seatbelt wear condition module identifies whether the seatbelt is worn correctly based on the first webbing payout and the second webbing payout.

Abstract: An overhead airbag system includes a first airbag assembly with a first inflator and a first airbag cushion. The first airbag cushion includes an occupant-facing portion, a first side portion and a second side portion. The occupant-facing portion is connected between the first side portion and the second side portion and separates the first side portion from the second side portion by a first gap. The first airbag cushion is operable in an uninflated state and an inflated state. The airbag system also includes a second airbag assembly with a second inflator and a second airbag cushion. The second airbag cushion includes an occupant-facing wall and at least one side wall. The occupant-facing wall faces away from the occupant-facing portion of the first airbag cushion and the at least one side wall is positioned between the first side portion and the second side portion of the first airbag cushion.
