摘要： An intermediate transfer belt and a photosensitive member form a transfer nip. An electrode is arranged close to an inner surface of the intermediate transfer belt in a portion on an upstream side of a direction of endless movement of the intermediate transfer belt with respect to a downstream-side exit of the transfer nip and on a downstream side of the direction of endless movement with respect to a position at which a transfer roller charges the intermediate transfer belt. A voltage of same polarity as the polarity of a toner is applied to the electrode, so that there is no movement of an electric charge between the electrode and the intermediate transfer belt.

摘要： A fixing device that fixes an unfixed toner image onto a moving sheet, includes a first fixing unit that makes toner of the unfixed toner image penetrate into the sheet by heat and pressure so as to be fixed onto the sheet as a fixed toner image, and a second fixing unit arranged downstream of the first fixing unit in a sheet moving direction to contact and press the fixed toner image on the sheet to change smoothness of a surface of the toner of the fixed toner image on the sheet. The second fixing unit is arranged at a position where a temperature of the toner of the fixed toner image on the sheet is greater than a glass transition temperature.

摘要： A method of repetitively using a sheet or similar toner image carrier produced from an image forming apparatus, and a toner applicable thereto. A toner forming an image on the toner image carrier is removed to erase the image. The toner image carrier is implemented as a synthetic sheet. Use is made of a toner whose adhering force to the sheet is weaker than the adhering force of a conventional toner.

摘要： A communication system includes: an image forming unit connected to a communication line through a communication control unit; and a management unit for managing data of resources of the image forming unit, the management unit being connected to the communication line, the image forming unit including: at least one component part; a first storage part for storing a control program for the component part, so that the component part is controlled in accordance with the control program; and a first control part for transmitting a first code to the management unit via the communication line in response to an update request signal, the first code indicating a model of the image forming unit and indicating a type of the component part, the management unit including: a second storage part for storing a plurality of control programs for different types of the component part of the image forming unit; and a second control part for reading out a first control program from the second storage part in accordance with the first code received from the first control part, and for transmitting the first control program to the image forming unit via the communication line, so that the first control program is stored in the first storage part.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes at least one image forming unit, a primary transfer belt, and a secondary transferer. The image forming unit includes an image carrier and a primary transfer bias applicator. The secondary transferer includes a secondary transfer nip, a secondary transfer bias applicator, and a facing member facing the second transfer bias applicator. The secondary transfer bias applicator forms a secondary transfer electric field. The image forming apparatus further includes a bias applicator, a contact start site, and an electrode. The bias applicator applies a bias voltage having a same polarity as the normal charge polarity of the toner to the primary transfer belt, downstream of the primary transfer bias applicator. The recording medium starts to contact the toner image at the contact start site, located upstream of the secondary transfer nip, where the electrode forms an electric field.

摘要： An apparatus for removing images on an image carrier sheet to allow the image carrier sheet to be repeatedly used. The apparatus includes an image removing member for removing images from an image carrier sheet, the images being fixed on the image carrier sheet. A liquid supply supplies a liquid to the image removing member and a transporting mechanism transports the image carrier sheet with the fixed images to the image removing member. The fixed images on the image carrier sheet are removed by the image removing member when the liquid supplied to the image removing member is applied to a surface of the image carrier sheet. A pressing member presses the surface of the image carrier sheet against the image removing member, the image removing member including a squeeze roller. The liquid supply means includes a liquid supply roller and the transporting mechanism comprises a pair of transport rollers. The squeeze roller is rotated at a higher speed than the pair of transport rollers.
