摘要: There is provided a process for production of a light-diffusing film 10 including a plurality of short fibers 11 and a transparent resin 12 for binding the short fibers 11 to each other. The production process of the present invention includes a step A of converting the plurality of short fibers 11 into a prefilm by a paper-making process, and a step B of coating a coating solution capable of forming the transparent resin 12 on at least one surface of the prefilm obtained in the step A, and solidifying or curing the coating solution coated on the prefilm to form a light-diffusing film 10. This production process can increase productivity of the light-diffusing film 10 since a production rate of the prefilm is higher than that of a conventional production process.

摘要: A light diffusion film (20) having small back scattering can be obtained by using fibers having two kinds of birefringent regions (21A) and (21B). An outer portion of fiber (21) is a first birefringent region 21A and an inner portion of fiber (21) is a second birefringent region (21B). While the first birefringent region (21A) is in contact with a transparent resin (22), the second birefringent region (21B) is not in contact with the transparent resin (22). When a refractive index (n1) in major axis direction of the first birefringent region (21A) is a value between a refractive index n2 in major axis direction of the second birefringent region (21B) and a refractive index n0 of the transparent resin (22), interface reflection between the transparent resin (22) and the fiber (21) can be reduced, which leads to obtain a light diffusion film (20) having small back scattering.

摘要: A light pipe is obtained by laminating on one or both surfaces of a light-transmitting resin plate a polarized-light scattering plate having fine birefringent domains dispersed therein and hence showing anisotropy in scattering. The polarized-light scattering plate comprises a transparent film having fine domains dispersed therein comprising a liquid crystal polymer which exhibits nematic at temperatures lower than the glass transition temperature of the polymer constituting matrix of the transparent film and has a glass transition temperature of 50° C. or higher. The light pipe as a laminate may further comprise a specular reflection layer, a polarization-retaining lens and a light diffusion layer laminated thereon. The light pipe may further comprise a light source mounted at least on one side face thereof to provide a planar polarized-light source.

摘要: A polarization component, capable of efficiently reflecting an obliquely transmitted light beam toward a light source without degrading the transmission-polarization property of a perpendicular incident light beam, is provided. A C-plate having an oblique retardation of at least λ/8 with respect to a light beam inclined by at least 30° is disposed between at least two reflective circular polarizer layers whose selective reflection wavelength bands of polarized light overlapping each other. A combination of a reflective linear polarizer and a quarter wavelength plate may be used instead of the reflective circular polarizer. Alternatively, a combination of two reflective linear polarizer layers and two quarter wavelength plate layers (Nz≧2) disposed therebetween can provide a similar effect. Further, a combination of two reflective linear polarizer layers and a half wavelength plate (Nz≧1.5) disposed therebetween may be used.

摘要: An optical film for a liquid crystal display of the invention laminated a polarizing plate and a retardation film so that an absorption axis of the polarizing plate and a slow axis of the retardation film are perpendicular or parallel to each other, wherein the polarizing plate comprises a transparent protective film on both surfaces of a complex type scattering-dichroic absorbing polarizer including a film that has a structure having a minute domain dispersed in a matrix formed of an optically-transparent water-soluble resin including an absorbing dichroic material, and the transparent protective film satisfies that an in-plane retardation Re1=(nx1−ny1)×d1 is 10 nm or less and a thickness direction retardation Rth={(nx1+ny1)/2−nz1}×d1 is in the range of from 30 nm to 100 nm; and the retardation film satisfies that an Nz value represented by Nz=(nx2−nz2)/(nx2−ny2) is in the range of from 0.1 to 0.8 and an in-plane retardation Re2=(nx2−ny2)×d2 is in the range of from 60 to 300 nm. The optical film for a liquid crystal display has a high contrast ratio over a wide range, a high transmittance, and a high degree of polarization and in which uneven transmittance can be suppressed when black viewing is displayed, and capable of realizing a better view in a case where the optical film is applied to a liquid crystal display driving in IPS mode.

摘要: A method is provided by which a highly functional thin retardation plate with no appearance defect can be produced. First, as shown in FIG. 1A, a solution of a liquid crystalline compound is applied on a transparent base 1 and dried, or alternatively, a liquid crystalline compound on the melt is applied on the transparent base 1, and thus a liquid crystalline compound-containing layer 2a is formed. Then, as shown in FIG. 1B, the liquid crystalline compound-containing layer 2a is brought to a liquid crystal state or a liquid state so as to form a layer 2b. An alignment substrate 3 is brought into contact with an upper portion of the layer 2a so that the liquid crystal compound is aligned in a particular direction. Then, after the liquid crystalline compound is aligned in the particular direction, as shown in FIG. 1C, the liquid crystalline compound-containing layer 2b on the melt is solidified, and the alignment substrate 3 is removed. Thus, a retardation plate 4 composed of the transparent base 1 and an optically anisotropic layer 2c is produced.
