Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices, and systems for beam group reporting for positioning in new radio (NR) wireless communications systems. In some wireless communications systems, multiple PRS resources, e.g., a beam group, received by a user equipment (UE) from the same network entity may be used to produce a combined Time of Arrival (TOA) measurement for the reference or target to derive an Reference Signal Time Difference (RSTD) estimate. The UE provides to a network entity an indication of the PRS resources in the beam group, which may be specifically or generally identified. Additionally, parameters associated with the beam group are provided, such as a relative quality of the TOA measurement for each PRS resource in the subset, a spread of the TOA measurements in the subset, a relative signal strength of each PRS resource in the subset, or a spread of the signal strength in the subset.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for positioning of a mobile device in a wireless network using directional positioning reference signals (PRS), also referred to as PRS beamforming. In an example method, a plurality of directional PRSs are generated for at least one cell for a base station, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs comprises at least one signal characteristic and a direction of transmission, either or both of which may be distinct or unique. The plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted within the at least one cell, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted in the direction of transmission. A mobile device may acquire and measure at least one of the directional PRSs which may be identified using the associated signal characteristic. The measurement may be used to assist position methods such as OTDOA and ECID and to mitigate multipath.

Abstract: Angle of arrival (AOA) and differential AOA (DAOA) positioning for a user equipment (UE) is enhanced by using the UE's inertial sensors to track UE motion and change in angular UE orientation. UE location may be computed, by the UE or a location server, using triangulation for AOA measurements relative to a global reference frame or using multilateration for DAOA measurements. The computed UE location may remain accurate even when the UE is moving while obtaining measurements. The UE can also use AOA and DAOA measurements using 3D angles to increase accuracy when the UE and measured base stations are not in the same horizontal plane. 3D angles can also be used to identify whether the UE is close to a serving base station to improve accuracy further. Various non-AOA measurements may also be used to supplement AOA and DAOA measurements.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed in which generic position methods in a wireless network allow positioning of a target user equipment (UE) that is served by any one (or more) of a number of different Radio Access Technologies (RATs) and that allow measurements by the UE of access nodes belonging to different RATs and/or measurements of the UE by access nodes for different RATs. With a generic position method, a common set of procedures, messages, and parameters may be defined that are applicable to multiple RATs and that do not require a location server to know in advance the serving RAT for a target UE.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may determine that a channel, such as a downlink channel or an uplink channel, and a positioning reference signal (PRS) occasion are scheduled for a common set of resources, such as a common frequency, a common time, and/or the like. This may result in the UE being unable to receive the PRS and/or process the PRS as a result of receiving the channel. In some aspects, the UE may determine that a PRS collides with a channel, and may perform a collision response action, such as dropping at least a portion of the channel, based at least in part on determining that the PRS occasion collides with the channel.

Abstract: Techniques described herein may enable more accurate location of a user equipment (UE) that may be subject to movement or velocity. The UE may obtain, during a period of time, location-related measurements of RF signals received at the UE, where the location-related measurements are indicative of a location of the UE during the period of time; The UE may also obtain, using sensors of the UE, velocity-related measurements indicative of a movement or velocity of the UE during the period of time. The UE may send the location-related measurements and the velocity-related measurements to a location server, which may compute a location of the UE based on the measurements. The location computation may allow for movement of the UE during the period of time.

Abstract: Various techniques are provided for Location Services (LCS) Assistance Data broadcast, for example for implementation in LTE and LTE-A systems. The embodiments described herein may use the LPP/LPPe positioning protocol, by making use of existing unsolicited Provide Assistance Data (PAD) messages. Embodiments avoid the need to define and implement a separate broadcast Assistance Data protocol. Additional exemplary embodiments for scheduling and verifying of the broadcast Assistance Data messages are described herein.

Abstract: Techniques for supporting positioning for terminals in a wireless network are described. In an aspect, positioning for a target device includes exchanging positioning messages that support a plurality of positioning methods between the target device and a location server. The positioning message may include common parameters applicable for all positioning methods. One of the positioning messages may be a Request Assistance Data message to request assistance data for a first positioning method, wherein the common parameters for the Request Assistance Data message includes an approximate location of the target device determined using a different positioning method. Another positioning message may be a Provide Assistance Data message to provide assistance data that is not in response to a request for assistance data, wherein the common parameters for the Provide Assistance Data message may include an approximate location of the target device or a current time.
