Abstract: In a wireless communication system, user equipment (UE) has autonomy provided by one or more set of rules to handle processing during a measurement gap. UE can ignore or use only a portion of the whole measurement gap if not needed. Thereby, an urgent need for remaining tuned to source carrier frequency can be supported, such as utilizing Random Access Channel (RACH) procedure. UE can also choose to tune to a target carrier frequency supporting timely handovers. Depending on the type of processing required (download shared channel (DL-SCH, UL-SCH, TTI bundling, RACH or SR), the UE may store requests and process the measurements during the gap or ignore the gap measurement as if there were no gaps.

Abstract: Techniques are provided which may be implemented using various methods and/or apparatuses for use in providing positioning assistance data to mobile stations. For example, a method in a first server in a cellular network may comprise sending a request for location information to a mobile station. A request for assistance data indicating an address of a second server may be received from the mobile station. Based on this address, a request for local mapping data may be sent to the second server. The local mapping data may be received from the second server. The assistance data based on the local mapping data and identifying a wireless signal transmitter may be sent to the mobile station. The location information, based on the assistance data and on a positioning operation based on a wireless signal transmitted by the identified wireless signal transmitter may be received from the mobile station.

Abstract: Techniques for supporting positioning for terminals in a wireless network are described. In an aspect, positioning for a target device includes exchanging positioning messages that support a plurality of positioning methods between the target device and a location server. The positioning message may include common parameters applicable for all positioning methods. One of the positioning messages may be a Request Assistance Data message to request assistance data for a first positioning method, wherein the common parameters for the Request Assistance Data message includes an approximate location of the target device determined using a different positioning method. Another positioning message may be a Provide Assistance Data message to provide assistance data that is not in response to a request for assistance data, wherein the common parameters for the Provide Assistance Data message may include an approximate location of the target device or a current time.
