Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that provide for a base station to use frequency hopping for cell acquisition according to a frequency hopping pattern. The frequency hopping pattern may include a set of anchor channels and a set of non-anchor channels used by a base station to communicate with wireless devices. The base station may occupy an anchor channel more often than a non-anchor channel and may transmit acquisition signals using the anchor channel. The anchor channel may also be used by the base station and a user equipment (UE) to exchange paging information, positioning information, random access resources, location of other channels, etc.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving an instance of a discovery reference signal (DRS) on a beam over a shared radio frequency spectrum band; determining a public land mobile network identifier (PLMN ID) based at least in part on a time-frequency location of the instance of the DRS; and selectively performing a random access procedure based at least in part on the determined PLMN ID. A method for wireless communication at a base station includes transmitting an instance of a DRS on a beam over a shared radio frequency spectrum band; and transmitting a PLMN ID based at least in part on a time-frequency location of the DRS.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that involve determining multiple beamformed transmission beams for transmission of an opportunistic or multi-beam discovery reference signal (DRS) over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may determine a contention exempt transmission (CET) period for the shared spectrum band and transmit the DRS using multiple transmission beams during CET period or the base station may perform a listen before talk (LBT) procedure, and transmit, based on the LBT procedure, the DRS over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may transmit an indication of the type of DRS transmission, a subframe offset, random access configurations, and/or error correcting codes to enable a user equipment to discover, connect to, and acquire timing information associated with the network.

One method includes assigning a downlink subframe that is a first occurring downlink subframe in a data frame; and transmitting an encoded control signal during a first transmission opportunity, the encoded control signal including a common portion for receiving devices, the common portion indicating a structure of the data frame, the encoded control signal further including a device specific portion for a specific receiving device, the device specific portion indicating uplink grants and downlink grants during the data frame for the specific receiving device, where at least the common portion of the encoded control signal is transmitted during the selected downlink subframe.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Resources for narrowband communication in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band may be configured and allocated based on resource availability, regulatory constraints, and device capability or category. A narrowband wireless device, such as a machine type communication device or other relatively low complexity device, may communicate using one or more narrowband carriers, which may occupy between one tone and multiple resource blocks in an unlicensed spectrum band (e.g., any number of resources between one (1) tone and multiple resource blocks (RBs)). Different device types may thus be configured differently as they move between geographic regions. The base station may then communicate with the narrowband mobile device based on the resource allocation and the carrier configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may perform a transmission detection procedure on each base station before combining control information. The UE may use demodulation reference signals (DMRS) as a detection mechanism. If the UE detects a DMRS from a base station, the UE may determine that a control resource set associated with the base station is valid for combining. If the UE does not detect DMRS from the base station, the UE may refrain from combining control information from the base station. In another example, base stations that pass a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure may transmit a preamble before transmitting control information. A preamble may carry a preamble sequence associated with a specific control resource set. The UE may identify a preamble sequence and determine that the corresponding control resource set is valid for control information combining.

Abstract: Aligned listen before talk (LBT) gaps for single operator frame-based equipment (FBE) mode new radio (NR) shared spectrum (NR-SS) is disclosed. Within the FBE mode network, the base station determines a plurality of potential transmission bursts within a fixed frame period. The base station may then reserve a plurality of LBT gaps prior to the starting position of each such transmission burst. The base station communicates the location of each of the LBT gaps to all neighboring network entities and contends for access to the fixed frame period at the beginning of the frame regardless of whether it has data for transmission during the frame. Each neighboring base station that receives the LBT gaps locations will use the same locations in order to align the LBT gaps over the FBE mode network.
