    摘要: A universal liner hanger apparatus is shown for hanging a liner in a well bore which has a universal body having upper and lower connecting ends. A hanger mechanism including a plurality of gripping slips and slip expanders are carried on the tubular body for engaging the well bore casing. Interchangeable setting mechanisms can be connected to a selected one of the upper and lower connecting ends and are actuable to engage the gripping slips with the slip expanders responsive to each of mechanical manipulation and fluid pressure. A single universal body is used with each of the different setting mechanisms to make-up the universal liner hanger apparatus. The hanger mechanism shown includes a plurality of longitudinal bars of single piece construction with spaced slip elements integrally formed therein. The longitudinal bars include a guide portion adapted to be slidingly received within guide tracks formed in selected ones of the expanders on the exterior of the tubular body. Sliding movement of the guide portions within the respective guide tracks causes the spaced slip elements to ride over the slip expanders to move the slip elements radially outward to engage the well bore.

    摘要: A setting tool of the type adapted to be made up in a pipe string for releasably engaging a setting sleeve in a well bore is shown which has a mandrel having an upper end adapted to be connected in the pipe string and having a lower end. A setting nut carried on the mandrel has external connecting threads for engaging mating connecting threads located on the interior of a setting sleeve disposed about the lower end of the mandrel. The mandrel is slidably disposed within the setting means when the setting means is engaging the setting sleeve. The mandrel is slidable between an extended running-in position and a weight-set down position. Dogs are provided in the setting nut for engaging a radial groove in the setting sleeve when the mandrel is in the running-in position to prevent relative movement between the setting nut and the setting sleeve which would disengage the tool. Setting weight down on the tool causes an undercut area on the mandrel to underlie the dogs in the setting nut thereby allowing the dogs to be disengaged from the setting sleeve groove which in turn allows relative movement between the setting nut connecting threads and the connecting threads of the setting sleeve to disengage the tool. The setting nut connecting threads can be right hand release threads, whereby the setting tool is releasable from the setting sleeve by right hand rotation of the mandrel when the mandrel is in the weight set-down position.

    摘要: A seal assembly is disclosed including first and second annular members mutually movable longitudinally to effect a first configuration in which the seal assembly is releasably anchored to a cylindrical body circumscribed by the seal assembly, and a second configuration in which the seal assembly is releasably anchored to a surrounding conduit. Sealing members are carried by the seal assembly to engage the enclosed cylindrical body as well as the circumscribing conduit. Operation of the seal assembly for movement between the first and second configurations is accomplished by manipulation of the cylindrical body which, with the seal assembly anchored to the conduit, is permitted limited longitudinal movement relative to the conduit and seal assembly while maintaining sealing engagement with the seal assembly. A disclosed embodiment includes a well seal assembly, or packer, for sealing a pipe string to a well conduit.

    摘要: A valve used in a drill stem test tool has a ball movable between an open position to allow flow through the drill string for testing and a closed position to block flow. Operating means move the ball between the open and closed positions in response to pressures in the well annulus. A nitrogen filled pressure chamber and pressure balancing piston compensate for variations in annular pressure as the tool is being lowered into position in the well. Actuating means including a weight operated sleeve are operated from the surface to overcome the compensating effect of the pressure balancing piston to allow the ball to be rotated to the open position. The ball is spring biased toward the closed position by a coil spring located inside the pressure chamber. Relieving pressure in the annulus causes the spring to close the ball.

    摘要: Disclosed is a well packer for releasable setting within a well conduit, including a seal assembly for sealing the packer to the conduit and an anchor assembly for anchoring the packer to the conduit. The packer is set in stages by hydraulic pressure. The seal assembly is extended, and locked, in sealing configuration; the anchor assembly is then set, and locked, in gripping engagement with the conduit. The packer is released by longitudinal movement of a central mandrel relative to the seal and anchoring assemblies. The release of the packer also occurs in stages, with the seal assembly unlocked and released from its set configuration followed by like operations relative to the anchor assembly. A hold-down system prevents premature release of the packer by securing the mandrel against such relative longitudinal movement.

    摘要: Disclosed is an elevator for handling pipe with enlarged ends by gripping the end of the pipe with the enlargement between two hinged arm pieces. In the specific embodiment shown, one arm piece fits into the end of the pipe with enlarged end in the form of a collar, and cooperates with a C-shaped receptacle which is fixed to the end of the other arm piece, and which fits around the pipe and catches the pipe collar to prevent the pipe from separating from the first arm inserted into the pipe end. A spring-actuated lock prevents the arms from opening and releasing the pipe.
