    摘要: A liquid crystal display device including a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules disposed between the substrates, an alignment layer disposed above at least one of the substrates, and a polymer disposed on the alignment layer. The device also includes scanning lines and signal lines, a TFT connected to one of the scanning lines and one of the signal lines, and a pixel electrode connected to the TFT and applying driving voltages to the liquid crystal molecules in an area defined by the pixel electrode. The polymer is formed through polymerization of monomers, different from monomers constituting the alignment layer, by active energy ray irradiation, or by both active energy ray irradiation and heat, and is arranged to align the liquid crystal molecules without rubbing so that the liquid crystal molecules in the area form multiple domains when driving voltages are applied from the TFT.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal cell, polarizers, a first retardation plate arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the first polarizer, and a second retardation plate arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the second polarizer. Each retardation plate has an optical axis in a plane parallel to the substrate surface and a retardation of substantially λ/4. The optical axis of one retardation plate is perpendicular to the optical axis of the other. The polarizing axes of the polarizers are arranged at an angle of 45° with respect to the optical axes of the retardation plates. The liquid crystal cell is arranged such that a state of alignment of liquid crystal molecules changes, accompanying a change in a polar angle and/or change in an azimuth, upon application of a voltage.

    摘要: A polymer dispersed liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal layer inserted between opposed glass plates and comprising a layer of resin and liquid crystal capsules dispersed in the resin. The liquid crystal capsules are substantially uniformly distributed all over the liquid crystal panel, even if a black matrix and bus lines provided in the glass plates may act as a shading layer when an ultraviolet light is irradiated to cure the resin and to form the liquid crystal capsules. The uniformly distributed liquid crystal capsules can be obtained by the manufacturing method comprising the step of irradiating the ultraviolet light obliquely to a surface of the glass plate having the shading layer for curing the resin material.
