    摘要: This application describes a medical device (230) for obtaining optical tissue properties of a target material. The medical device (230) comprises an elongated body (231) having a longitudinal axis (232) and an optical fiber being integrated within the elongated body (231). The optical fiber has a second fiber end (242, 242a, 242b), which is arranged at a side wall (233) of the elongated body (231) and which provides a lateral field of view with respect to the longitudinal axis (232). According to an embodiment many optical fibers are integrated each having an optical outlet (242, 242a, 242b) around the elongated body (231). Using the outlets (242, 242a, 242b) to do diffuse optical tomography and also use optical fibers to do an optical inspection, one can get information on the presence of tumors in a volume around the medical device (230) and a tissue characterization in the vicinity of the medical device (230). Thereby, an optical biopsy may be carried out, wherein no real tissue is removed. According to another embodiment an optical detection system is integrated into a real biopsy needle (330) allowing inspection and taking real biopsy simultaneously.

The at least one first electrode (62-70) is arranged in an intermediate portion with respect to the interface (60) such that the intermediate portion (A, B) of the interface (60) is moved substantially in direction of the optical axis (28) in dependence on the voltage applied between the at least one first electrode (62-70) and the at least one second electrode (72).

    摘要: A variable lens system includes a chamber with an optical axis extending through the chamber. The chamber contains a first fluid and a second fluid in contact over a meniscus extending transverse the optical axis. The perimeter of the meniscus is fixedly located on an internal surface of the chamber. The fluids are substantially immiscible and have different indices of refraction. A pump is arranged to controllably alter the shape of the meniscus by altering the relative volume of each of the fluids contained within the chamber.

    摘要: A switchable optical element has an optical axis. The element includes a chamber, a wave front modifier having a face defining an interior surface of the chamber (the face extending transverse the optical axis), a first fluid and a second fluid. The fluids are immiscible and in contact over an interface. The optical element is switchable between a first discrete state in which the first fluid substantially covers the face of the wave front modifier, and a second discrete state in which the second fluid substantially covers the face of the wave front modifier, wherein the chamber encloses both fluids in both discrete states, and the interlace extends transverse the optical axis in the first discrete state.

    摘要: A switchable optical element having a first discrete state and a different, second discrete state. The element comprises a fluid system including a first fluid (44) and a different, second fluid (46), a wavefront modifier (26) having a face (28); and a fluid system switch for acting on the fluid system to switch between the first and second discrete states of the element. When the element is in the first discrete state, the face (28) of the wavefront modifier (26) is substantially covered by the first fluid (44). When the element is in the second discrete state, the face of the wavefront modifier is substantially covered by the second fluid (46). The fluid system switch comprises a configuration of electrodes arranged to act on the fluid system by the application of electrowetting forces and a voltage control system arranged to control voltages applied to the configuration of electrodes to switch between the first and second discrete states of the element.
