A variable displacement compressor includes a swash plate, which is rotatably supported on a drive shaft in a crank chamber. The crank chamber is connected to a discharge chamber through a pressurizing passage. An electromagnetic control valve is located in the pressurizing passage. When the control valve opens the pressurizing passage, pressure in the crank chamber increases and inclination of the swash plate decreases. When the control valve closes the pressurizing passage, the pressure in the crank chamber decreases and inclination of the swash plate increases. A fixed restrictor is located in the pressurizing passage. When the control valve suddenly opens the pressurizing passage, the fixed restrictor limits the flow rate of gas in the pressurizing passage so that the pressure in the crank chamber gradually increases. Accordingly, the inclination of the swash plate gradually decreases, thus reducing vibration and noise.

Rotation of the drive shaft 16 rotates the first swash plate 18, which causes the pistons 23 to reciprocate and compress refrigerant gas. The first swash plate 18 supports an annular second swash plate 51 to be rotatable relative to the first swash plate 18 via a ball bearing 52. The second swash plate 51 is arranged between the first swash plate 18and the shoes 25B that receive a compressive load to be slidable with respect to the first swash plate 18 and the shoes 25B. Therefore, the first swash plate reliably slides with respect to the second swash plate.

A laser recording apparatus for recording a continuous tone image on a photosensitive material by scanning the material with an analog light beam which was intensity-modulated on the basis of an image signal is disclosed. The apparatus uses a semiconductor laser as a light beam source, and the emission light level of the semiconductor laser is controlled according to an image signal by making use of the charging and discharging of a capacitor and without making use of the well-known APC circuit. Thus, the apparatus is free from the problem of circuit oscillation that arises when using an APC circuit and permits a repeatedly increasing and decreasing emission light level instruction signal to be followed by the semiconductor emission light level accurately and with a satisfactory response speed, so that it is possible to record a continuous tone image at a high speed and with high accuracy.
