Abstract:
A method is provided for managing a priority call in a serving cell. The method comprises, when a priority call is in progress in the serving cell, an access device in the serving cell determining an amount of resources available in the serving cell. The method further comprises when the amount of resources available in the serving cell is below a threshold, the access device causing at least one non-priority call in the serving cell to be handed over to a target cell.
Abstract:
A wireless terminal adapted to function in a code division multiple access (CDMA) communications system is provided. The terminal includes a receiver adapted to receive frames having a slot structure in which there is a user identification channel and a shared channel, the shared channel having been transmitted using a plurality of Walsh codes, and containing content for either a plurality of voice users, a plurality of voice users and one high-rate data user, or only one high-rate data user. A slot of the shared channel contains content for a plurality of users which was transmitted in parallel using different Walsh code spaces for different users. The wireless terminal is adapted to decode the user identification channel to determine when a slot of the shared channel contains voice and/or high-rate data content for the wireless terminal.
Abstract:
A method for creating a radio resource control profile for a radio resource allocation or a state-transition profile having the steps of: receiving a parameter associated with a user equipment (UE); associating the parameter with the radio resource control profile for the radio resource allocation or the state-transition profile; and initiating the radio resource allocation or state transition profile for the UE.
Abstract:
A method, system and apparatus for dynamically modifying the quality of service provided to a mobile communication device. The method includes the steps of establishing a secure tunnel between the mobile communication device and a remote network through a wireless network; communicating through the secure tunnel at a first quality of service; determining that a second quality of service, higher or lower than the first quality of service, is more appropriate to the communication type, and requesting, from the wireless network, the second quality of service.

Abstract:
Generally, the present invention provides a method for detecting poor RF conditions, and entering different sleep mode levels or phases in accordance with the RF conditions to save battery power. Mobile device battery life can be conserved when the mobile device detects poor RF conditions and enters a deep sleep mode of operation. In this deep sleep mode of operation the mobile device periodically samples the RF conditions and gradually increases the period between samples when the RF conditions do not improve. Because mobility can change the RF condition for wireless devices even in areas of good RF coverage, the mobile device operating in the deep sleep mode can detect this mobility and thus enhance the probability of entering an idle state, or alternatively, entering a longer power save mode. When the RF condition improves, the mobile device exits from the deep sleep mode and returns to the idle state.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for radio resource management in a wireless device is provided. A type of data connection to be established between the wireless device and a network is determined. A radio resource capability mode for the data connection based on resource requirements of the determined type of data connection is dynamically determined wherein the radio resource capability mode is selected from a plurality of radio resource capability modes operable by the wireless device within wireless technologies supported by the network. The determined radio resource capability mode is conveyed to the network during connection establishment between the wireless device and the network, wherein the radio resource capability mode is used by the network to determine radio resources to be allocated to the wireless device for the connection.
Abstract:
A method and network element for sending a transition indication to transition a user equipment to a different state or mode, the method receiving a configuration message from a network; and transmitting a transition indication from the user equipment, the transition indication only includes a cause if the configuration message contains an inhibit transition indication. Also, a method and user equipment for processing a transitioning indication from a user equipment indicating the user equipment desires a transition to a different state or mode, the method comprising: receiving the transition indication from the user equipment; if the transition indication contains a cause: releasing a signaling connection of the user equipment or transitioning the user equipment to a different state or mode; and if the transition indication does not contain the cause: releasing the signaling connection.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus to restore always on connectivity to user equipment, the method having the steps of: monitoring whether the user equipment has transitioned to a network that supports concurrent voice and data; performing, upon the monitoring step detecting the transition, a routing area update; checking whether the user equipment was in a voice call at the time of the transition, and if yes, sending a data packet to the network.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the selection of an emergency number in a mobile station having a geographic indicator, the method comprising the steps of and the apparatus characterized by means for: determining whether a user is attempting to reach an emergency service provider; and if the user is attempting to reach an emergency service provider, connecting to a network if the mobile station is not already connected to a network; looking up an emergency dial string in a look-up table based on the geographic indicator and the network connected to and the underlying service; and sending the emergency dial string.
