In a method for assembling the laser apparatus: a first angle between the second reference surface and a reference direction is measured; the orientation of the attachment part is adjusted while measuring a second angle between the first reference surface and the reference direction; and the attachment part is adhesively fixed to the fixing member when the second angle is equal to an angle predetermined based on the first angle and the first and second predetermined angles.

A process for the production of fine powder of metallic nickel which comprises a first step of dissolving nickel carbonate and/or nickel hydroxide in aqueous ammonia or in an aqueous solution of ammonia and at least one selected from the group consisting of ammonium carbonate, ammonium hydrogencarbonate, a carbonate of an alkali metal and a hydrogencarbonate of an alkali metal to prepare an aqueous solution of a nickel salt; converting the aqueous solution of a nickel salt to a W/O emulsion, and then removing volatile components including ammonia from the droplets to form precipitates of nickel carbonate in the droplets, thereby providing fine spherical particles of nickel carbonate; and a second step of heating the particles of nickel carbonate in the presence of a fusion preventive agent that is a compound of at least one element selected from the group consisting of alkaline earth elements, aluminum, silicon and rare earth elements in an atmosphere of hydrogen, thereby reducing the nickel carbonate to metallic nickel.

A denitrizing catalyst which comprises:(a) an alkali metal oxide or an alkaline earth metal oxide in amounts of 50-90% by weight as oxides;(b) at least one metal oxide selected from the group consisting of Co.sub.3 O.sub.4, Cu.sub.2 O, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, Mn.sub.2 O.sub.3, NiO, PbO, Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3, MoO.sub.2, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, SiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3, TiO.sub.2, WO.sub.3, MoO.sub.3, SnO.sub.2 and ZnO in amounts of 5-50% by weight as oxides; and(c) at least one metal or at least one oxide of metals selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Pt and Au in amounts of 0.01-10% by weight as metals.Nitrogen oxides contained in waste gases are denitrized effectively by putting the gases into contact with the catalysts in the absence or presence of carbon monoxide as a reducing agent.

There is provided a method of producing titanium-oxides which comprises: admixing an aqueous solution of titanium tetrachloride with sulfuric acid in amounts of at least 0.5 times is moles as the titanium tetrachloride; adding an alkali to the resultant solution to produce titanium hydroxide; and drying and calcining the titanium hydroxide. A further method is provided which comprises: adding a solution of an alkali to an aqueous solution of titanium tetrachloride having a concentration of not more than 2.5 moles/l at temperatures of not less than 50.degree. C., thereby to substantially thermally hydrolyze the titanium tetrachloride and to produce titanium hydroxide; and drying and calcining the titanium hydroxide.

A catalyst for denitrizing nitrogen oxides contained in waste gas which contains a substantial amount of arsenic compounds therein, which comprises:(a) titanium, and(b) at least one element selected from the group consisting of arsenic and manganese. The catalyst is resistant to deactivation by arsenic compounds and retains high denitrizing activity over a long period of time. The catalyst may further contain at least one base metal selected from the group consisting of V, W, Mo, Cu, Fe, Cr, Co, Ni, Zn and Sn.
