    摘要: An article surveillance system includes a structure responsive to a first pulsed inductive magnetic field, periodically derived by a power line activated generator. The structure derives a second pulsed inductive magnetic field having a predetermined occurrence time relative to the occurrence time of the first magnetic field. A receiver for the second magnetic field is power line activated. The occurrence time of the first magnetic field and the activation time of the receiver to be responsive to the second magnetic field are synchronized. The synchronization of the transmitter and receiver is provided by separate zero crossing detectors for the power lines respectively activating the transmitter and receiver. The power lines activating the transmitter and receiver are likely to have zero crossings at different predetermined time positions because they are likely to be across two different phases of a three-phase power line. The receiver and transmitter includes separate circuits for compensating for the different zero crossing time positions.

    摘要: Hardfacing of metal parts employing a thin, homogeneous, ductile foil is disclosed. The hardfacing foil has a composition consisting essentially of 0 to about 32 atom percent nickel, 0 to about 10 atom percent iron, 0 to about 30 atom percent chromium, 0 to about 2 atom percent tungsten, 0 to about 4 atom percent molybdenum, about 5 to about 25 atom percent boron, 0 to about 15 atom percent silicon and 0 to about 2 atom percent manganese and 0 to 5 atom percent carbon the balance being cobalt and incidental impurities with the proviso that the total of iron, cobalt, nickel, chromium, tungsten and molybdenum ranges from about 70 to 88 atom percent and the total of boron, silicon and carbon ranges from about 12 to 30 atom percent. The ductile foil permits continuous hardfacing of soft matrix, like low carbon and low alloy steels, imparting superior resistance to wear and corrosion.

The system contains elements for casting rapidly solidified ribbon, an in-line knife mill or a hammer mill for fracturing the rapidly solidified ribbon into shard, and either an in-line fluid energy mill, or an in-line centrifugal mill for reducing the shard to powder. The system can effectively reduce ribbon to powder in an in-line operation, and produce a powder with a particle size of -35 mesh.

    摘要: The invention relates to an in-line fuseholder which comprises a unitary housing with a cover integral therewith. Two fuse clip insulation displacement contact assemblies are press-fit into the housing. Wire securing mechanisms are provided to facilitate a one-step connection with wires from the exterior. After being closed over the wires, the wire securing mechanisms hold the wires in the housing in a strain-relief fashion. The wire securing mechanisms are also integral with the housing.

    摘要: A device for monitoring environmental exposure includes an element whose electrical properties change, in a predetermined way, in response to the environmental exposure. The element may be part of a tuned circuit or of a shield for a tuned circuit. In either case, when the tuned circuit is interrogated, preferably by an r.f. or microwave signal, it emits a signal whose intensity depends on the electrical properties of the element. Thus, an incremental environmental exposure can be measured by a change in the signal intensity. The device is particularly useful for monitoring the condition of perishable materials, because it can be located with the perishable inside a packaging material during both storage and interrogation.

    摘要: A fiber optic connector of the type in which two plugs are received within opposite ends of a socket or housing. Axially extending ridges and recesses on mating surfaces of the plugs and the socket interengage with each other in order to guarantee alignment of the optical fibers. To avoid the possibility of plug reversal, polarizing keys and keyways are provided on the plugs and sockets to guarantee that each plug can only be inserted in one way into the socket. The minimum spacing between coupled optical fibers is established by a flat shim which is secured to and suspended from an external shelf, and which extends into the interior of the socket to keep the two plugs apart. Bend end and strain relief sleeves, formed of semi-rigid material, preferably heat shrinkable to clamp tightly about the fiber optic cables, are coupled to the plugs by means of molded recesses and flanges which interengage. In one embodiment of the invention these sleeves are accordion-pleated; while in another embodiment each bend and strain relief device is molded in the form of two integral shell halves with an integral tethered cap for protection of the optical fibers when the plug is withdrawn from its socket.
