Abstract: A climate-control system includes a variable-capacity compressor, an outdoor ambient temperature sensor, a user-controlled device, and a control module. The outdoor ambient temperature sensor indicates a temperature of outdoor ambient air. The user-controlled device provides a demand signal indicating a demand for at least one of heating and cooling. The control module commands a compressor stage and a stage run time based on the temperature from the outdoor ambient temperature sensor and the demand signal. The control module also modifies a lockout threshold based on a cycle run time, where the cycle run time is an actual run time for the compressor to meet a setpoint temperature.

Abstract: A compressor may include a shell assembly, first and second scrolls, and a valve assembly. The shell assembly may define a discharge chamber. The first scroll may be disposed within the discharge chamber and may include a first end plate and a first spiral wrap. The first end plate may include a discharge passage in communication with the discharge chamber. The second scroll may be disposed within the discharge chamber and may include a second end plate and a second spiral wrap. The first and second spiral wraps define fluid pockets therebetween. The second end plate may include a port selectively communicating with one of the fluid pockets. The valve assembly may be mounted to the second scroll and may include a valve member that is movable between open and closed positions to allow and restrict communication between the port and the discharge chamber.

Abstract: Systems and methods for scroll unloading detection are provided and include a scroll compressor having a scroll compression mechanism. A controller determines a predicted discharge temperature of the scroll compressor, receives an actual discharge temperature of the scroll compressor, and compares the predicted discharge temperature with the actual discharge temperature. The controller also compares a speed of the scroll compressor with a speed threshold and detects unloading of the scroll compression mechanism based on the comparison of the predicted discharge temperature with the actual discharge temperature and based on the comparison of the speed of the scroll compressor with the speed threshold. The controller performs at least one of generating an alert and a remediating action in response to detecting the unloading of the scroll compression mechanism.

Abstract: A system includes a variable-capacity compressor operable in a first capacity mode and in a second capacity mode that is higher than the first capacity mode. A control module is configured to switch the variable-capacity compressor between the first capacity mode and the second capacity mode based on a demand signal from the thermostat. The control module determines a number of previous consecutive operating cycles of the variable-capacity compressor in the first capacity mode within a predetermined period of time. The control module operates the variable-capacity compressor in the second capacity mode in response to the number of previous consecutive operating cycles of the variable-capacity in the first capacity mode within the predetermined period of time exceeding a predetermined threshold.

The seal may include inner and outer diametrical surfaces. The inner diametrical surface may include a plurality of first annular grooves. The bushing includes a first portion and a second portion. The second portion of the bushing includes a plurality of radially extending engagement features. The second portion of the bushing is disposed within the bore of the hub such that the engagement features engage the lip of the hub.
