Abstract:
A part employing internally molded shapes and surface finish to provide cosmetic features or design elements includes a body, at least a portion of which is molded of a transparent or semi-transparent material having an internal surface and an external surface. A cosmetic feature is formed in the internal surface of the body and is visible through the body of the part from the external surface. In some embodiments, the part is within a mobile phone.
Abstract:
The present invention is the apparatus and method for producing a plastic sheet having a pattern produced in a layer therein. The plastic sheet is a single layer sheet or a multi-layer sheet. The pattern is produced by mixing two or more plastic extrudants together in a mixer. The pattern is visible in the layer containing the two or more plastic extrudants because an at least one of the plastic extrudants is at least partially transparent. The mixer used to produce the pattern includes a housing having an end configured to expel the mixture of the two or more extrudants through a plurality of outlets. The mixer further comprises a rotatable shaft and at least one projection coupled to the shaft and rotatable with the shaft, the at least one projection configured to orient the mixture of the two or more extrudants relative to the plurality of outlets in the housing. The mixer further comprising a thrust bearing configured to couple an end of the shaft to the housing.

Abstract:
An aesthetically pleasing spa or jetted bath tub having a preferably vinyl film, with indicia thereon applied to the underside of the spa body, either alone or with the addition of paint upon the vinyl film or upon uncovered areas of the spa body, prior to the application of the fibreglass lay up to the spa body. The method of manufacture of the spa is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Processes for producing a holographic material involve producing the holographic image on a polished, substantially smooth surface and then transferring the holographic image to a substrate. A metallic coating is applied to a smooth surface of a printing element to provide a coated surface, the coated surface is embossed to provide the holographic image, and the holographic image is transferred to a substrate via a bonding material, thereby producing the holographic material. The holographic material may be used to provide a decorative cover for an object or item, such as a floral grouping or a potted plant.

Abstract:
An ink jet printhead has a number of nozzles each ejecting drops of ink toward a surface. Each nozzle has a nozzle chamber at least partially defined by an apertured roof portion operatively connected to an actuator such that the actuator moves the roof portion away from the surface to be printed to eject the ink. The ink jet printhead also has a projection within each nozzle for effectively dislodging any dried ink clogging the nozzle rim, hence preventing blocking of the nozzle.

Processes for producing a sheet of holographic material wherein the holographic image is formed on a polished, substantially smooth surface of a printing element and then transferred the holographic image to a substrate. A coating is applied to the smooth surface of the printing element to provide a coated surface, the coated surface is embossed or engraved to provide the holographic image, and the holographic image is then transferred to a substrate via a bonding material, thereby producing the sheet of holographic material. The sheet of holographic material may be used to provide a decorative cover for an object or item, such as a floral grouping or a potted plant.
Abstract:
A method of making patterned artificial material marble/granite/solid surface material that makes artificial marble/granite/solid surface material with variable patterns by use of polymers. The polymers are combined with filler materials, an accelerating reagent or colorful material to compose basic materials and pattern materials in different colors. Molds with at least one pattern are used for curing of the basic materials and the pattern material to form the patterned artificial material and to make the artificial marble/granite/solid surface material integral.
Abstract:
A method for embossing a cylindrical object such as a paint roller cover, especially using an apparatus that includes a shuttle and a rotatable shaft on the shuttle. The rotatable shaft includes two ends, with one end accepting a paint roller cover and with the other end being toothed for engagement with a gear rack. As the rotatable shaft is drawn in one direction by the shuttle, the toothed end engages the gear rack and rotates the rotatable shaft, thereby also rotating the paint roller cover. As the paint roller cover rotates, it is drawn by the shuttle over a die transfer plate having a design formed therein, and such design is transferred to the paint roller cover. The die transfer plate is heated to the desired temperature, and the speed of the shuttle is controllable so that time and temperature is controlled. Another controlled parameter is pressure.
