Abstract:
A trim for a wheel rim, in particular, an alloy wheel rim for a vehicle includes an annulus with an inturned outer rim to define radial and axial faces, which can be located over and around an outer lip of the wheel rim. A plurality of grippers are spaced around the circumference of the outer rim such that the trim can be secured to the wheel rim. A resilient insert is located around the radial and axial faces, defined on the inner side of the annulus, to cushion the trim against the wheel rim.
Abstract:
A shield for wheel assemblies formed of a metal band that is inserted into wheels so as to cover and protect the inner surface of the wheels. The shields can be made from stainless steel and used to protect the inner surfaces of aluminum from damage caused by debris that contact a vehicle braking assembly. The shields are secured in the wheels by a mechanical locking arrangement in which the outer ends of the shields snap-fit along outboard rim flanges of the wheels. Adhesives or sealants can be used to secure the shields to the wheels and to prevent moisture and debris from becoming trapped between the shields and inner surfaces of the wheels.
Abstract:

The wheel assembly also includes a ring-shaped flange member, and a wheel cladding member having a central portion and an outer periphery complementary to the central portion, wherein the outer periphery includes a circumferentially-extending channel that receives the flange member therein. The channel member is operably coupled to the wheel such that the central portion of the cladding member is aligned with at least a portion of the disk of the wheel, the periphery of the cladding member is aligned with at least a portion of the rim of the wheel, and the channel of the wheel cladding is located substantially proximate the outer edge of the rim.
Abstract:
A wheel cover assembly includes an anchor member, a cover member, and a biasing member. The anchor member includes a base plate having an inner side, an outer side opposite to the inner side, and a shank hole formed through the inner and outer sides. The cover member includes a cover plate having a front side, a rear side opposite to the front side and disposed to confront the outer side of the base plate, and a shank extending from the rear side and passing through the shank hole. The shank has a distal end distal from the rear side of the cover plate and provided with a spring seat thereon. The biasing member is sleeved on the shank, and has one end abutting against the inner side of the base plate and an opposite end abutting against the spring seat.
Abstract:
A wheel rim protection device for protecting wheel rims when a user is using sprays to clean the tires on a vehicle. The wheel rim protection device includes a dome-shaped cover member having a wall with a main portion, and also having an opening centrally-disposed through the wall, and further having an enlarged rim portion being adapted to detachably attach to a wheel rim on a vehicle, and also having a first arcuate portion being disposed along a portion of an edge forming the opening and which is angled relative to the main portion of the wall to prevent over-spray from coming into contact with the wheel rim.
Abstract:
A wheel and cladding includes a cladding having an outer decorative surface and an inner surface which faces a wheel to be covered. The cladding includes a plurality of openings for receiving wheel mounting lugs. Spaced from the openings are a plurality of spaced snap-locking tabs extending from the inner facing surface of the cladding toward the wheel to which the cladding is to be mounted. The wheel includes a generally circular relief cut or other recess extending around the central hub or in spaced relationship thereto and aligned with the spaced tabs of the cladding to snap-receive the cladding for holding it in place while adhesive applied to the wheel and/or cladding is cured to permanently bond the decorative cladding to the wheel.
Abstract:
A composite wheel assembly includes a wheel having a trim ring, a cladding, and a hubcap attached to the wheel. The wheel includes a disc and a rim flange circumscribing the disc with the disc and rim flange defining an outboard surface of the wheel. A trim ring mounts to and radially locates with respect to the rim flange and radially extends inward toward the disc. The cladding mounts to and radially locates with respect to the disc and radially extends outward toward the rim flange. The cladding overlaps the trim ring so that a continuous bright appearance extends across the entire outboard surface of the composite wheel assembly and so that any radial dimensional variation in the trim ring and cladding is taken up by the overlapping relationship therebetween.
Abstract:
A vehicle wheel and overlay assembly having an overlay that extends radially outward to cover substantially the entire outboard surface of the wheel, without wrapping around the periphery of the wheel. The assembly includes a wheel having a rim flange that terminates in a flange lip having a radially outermost edge. An overlay is attached to and closely contours the wheel outboard surface and radially terminates in a peripheral flange that has a peripheral lip with a radially outermost edge that is aligned with the outermost edge of the wheel flange lip within a predetermined circumferential margin so that the peripheral flange covers at least a portion of the wheel flange lip. This configuration gives the visible impression that this is a one-piece wheel, where the outboard surface of the overlay appears to be the outboard surface of the wheel, and not a separate component.
Abstract:
An improved vehicle wheel cover retention system and method for producing the same includes a vehicle wheel including a disc defining an outboard facing wheel surface and including an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange. The vehicle wheel further includes a first wheel cover and a second wheel cover. The first wheel cover covers at least a portion of the outboard facing wheel surface, and the second wheel cover covers the entire portion of the outer peripheral end of the outboard tire bead seat retaining flange. Preferably, an adhesive is applied to one of the outboard facing wheel surface and the first wheel cover inner surface to permanently secure the first wheel cover and the disc together. The method for producing the vehicle wheel includes the steps: (a) providing a vehicle wheel including a disc defining an outboard facing wheel surface and including an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange; (b) providing a first wheel cover and a second wheel cover; (c) supporting the first wheel cover, the second wheel cover, and the vehicle wheel in coaxial relationship relative to one another; (d) securing the first wheel cover to the vehicle wheel, the first wheel cover covering at least a portion of the outboard facing wheel surface; and (e) securing the second wheel cover to the vehicle wheel, the second wheel cover covering the entire portion of the outboard tire bead seat retaining flange of the disc.
Abstract:
An improved vehicle wheel cover retention system and method for producing the same wherein the wheel includes a disc defining an outboard facing wheel surface and including an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange. The flange includes an outer surface having a circumferential, radially inwardly facing groove formed therein. The groove is defined by a generally axially extending first surface and a second surface angled relative to the first surface. The wheel further includes a wheel cover covering at least a portion of the outboard facing wheel surface. The cover includes an outer annular lip which extends into the groove and is positioned adjacent the first surface. The groove and the lip have a configuration which enables the lip to spring outwardly into the groove when the cover is pressed on the disc. The method for producing the vehicle wheel includes the the steps of: (a) providing a disc defining an outboard facing wheel surface and including an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange, the outboard bead seat retaining flange including an outer surface having a circumferential, radially inwardly facing groove formed therein, the groove defining an inner diameter; (b) providing a wheel cover including an outer annular lip which defines an outer diameter which generally corresponds to the inner diameter of the groove; and (c) moving the disc and the cover toward one another whereby the wheel cover initials deflects inwardly and then expands outwardly into the groove to secure the wheel cover to the disc.
