Abstract:
A process for the production of cup tappets for reciprocating-piston machines having a pressure plate made from wear-resistant alloyed tool steel and a cup casing, welded to the pressure plate, and made from cheap and cold-extrudable steel utilizes a friction welding process to weld the two parts to one another in a crack-free manner. The cup casing blank is produced by the cold-extrusion process and is carbonized before the welding so that good welding results can thereby be achieved despite the considerable strength differences and cross-sectional differences between the pressure plate and cup casing blanks. As a result of a preheating of the pressure plate, an impairment of the cup casing blank during the frictional heating can be compensated and cracks in the workpiece during or immediately after the welding can thereby be avoided. The pressure plate blank can be designed as a flat round which can be produced by stamping and which projects radially to a pronounced extent relative to the cup casing blank, so that it can be tensioned in an overhand region during the friction welding. The outer overhang containing possible cracks is removed in a subsequent chip-removing, preferably grinding operation.
Abstract:
A sealing device is provided on the outer circumference of an oil pressure unit of the oil pressure rush adjuster, or on the partitioning wall of a sub-reservoir surrounding the oil pressure unit, or therebetween so as to provide a sealing between said partitioning wall and said outer circumference of the oil pressure unit while the engine in which the rush adjuster is mounted is stopped and so as to allow a portion of the oil to leak therebetween while the engine operates. Since the oil is perfectly prevented, while the engine stops, from leaking between the outer circumference of the oil pressure unit and the partitioning wall of the sub-reservoir, the oil amount residing in the reservoirs is enough even though not supplied from the cylinder head, and the air cannot be drawn into the high pressure chamber.
Abstract:
In the embodiments disclosed in the specification, a valve mechanism, preferably for an internal combustion engine, includes a valve spring guide sleeve which receives a cup plunger and has a supply passage for a hydraulic pressure medium in one wall. The guide sleeve at least partially encloses the valve spring and the supply passage is disposed unilaterally in the guide sleeve which has a smaller wall thickness on the side away from the supply passage.

Abstract:
Method of oil and gas tightly fastening a diaphragm made of an elastomer material with respect to the tappet as well as the adjusting element within a hydrostatic valve clearance adjusting device and configuration of the same. Clamping rings are form-lockingly connected with the fastening end of the diaphragm already during the vulcanization process. The thus manufactured installable unit is fixed in the tappet in the correct position orientation by means of an installation tool. Moreover, the structural configuration of the clamping rings is described as well as that of the elastic diaphragm.
Abstract:
A cup tappet is disclosed which has a hydraulic play compensation device for a breather valve of an internal-combustion engine. The play compensation device includes a play compensating element which is composed of components of the cup and of the valve shank in order to simplify the cup tappet structurally.

Abstract:
A self-contained lash adjuster includes a generally cup-shaped follower having an end face and a lash adjuster cartridge assembly positioned within the follower. The cartridge assembly includes a body positioned against the follower end face and a reciprocally movable plunger within the body. There is a high pressure chamber between the plunger and the body, a plunger passage opening into the high pressure chamber and a check valve which controls fluid flow through the plunger passage. The plunger has an open end spaced from the high pressure chamber and there is a valve stem pad closing the plunger open end. An annular expandable seal member defines a reservoir about the cartridge assembly and is fastened at one end to the body and at the other end to the plunger. The seal member extends in part between the plunger and the valve stem pad. The plunger has openings therein in communication with the reservoir.
