摘要： Extended area lighting devices include a light guide and diffractive surface features on a major surface of the light guide. The diffractive surface features provide low distortion for viewing objects through the light guide. Light from discrete light source(s) is injected into the light guide, and the diffractive surface features interact with the injected light to couple guided-mode light out of the light guide. The out-coupled light produces one or more bands whose apparent shape changes with viewing position. The bands may be bright bands that correspond to the discrete light sources, or dark bands associated with an optional non-uniform reflective structure extending along a side surface of the light guide. Multiple bands may form a pattern that changes with viewing position, the pattern of bands having a 3-dimensional appearance for at least some viewing positions. The lighting devices can be used as luminaires for general lighting or decorative lighting.

摘要： A linkable linear light emitting diode (LED) system provides apparatus and method for mechanically, optically, and electrically linking multiple LED modules disposed over a wide and separated area of a ceiling system. Openings can be cut in ceiling tiles of a drop ceiling system and the LED lighting modules are coupled to the tile through the opening, with the tile being sandwiched between different portions of the module. A remote driver system is placed within the drop ceiling above the tiles and provide multiple connectors for powering a multitude of lighting modules. Certain of the LED lighting modules include both input and output connectors for both receiving power or data and providing power or data to other modules. In this manner, some of the modules act as master LED lighting modules and those receiving power and/or data therefrom are act as slave modules.

摘要： Lighting fixtures using light-emitting devices are disclosed with heat sinks that are both decorative and functional by providing heat dissipation for the light-emitting devices used therein. A lighting fixture can contain an insert portion for removably attaching to a heat sink. A light-emitting device can be mechanically coupled and attached to the heat sink while simultaneously electrically coupling and connecting the light-emitting device. A lamp shade can be secured to the heat sink by attachably engaging with a retaining portion of the insert portion. The fixture comprises a lamp shade wherein at least a portion of a body of the heat sink forming a decorative portion can extend outward from the lamp shade.

摘要： A thermosyphon light engine and luminaire including the same are provided. The light engine includes a condenser, an evaporation chamber, and a connecting element therebetween. The condenser returns a gaseous substance located therein to a liquid substance. The evaporation chamber includes a solid state light source, a working liquid, and an optical element that beam shapes light emitted by the at least one solid state light source. The solid state light source is immersed in the working liquid, such that heat generated by the solid state light source changes the working liquid into a gaseous substance. The gaseous substance travels through the connecting element to the condenser, which returns the gaseous substance to a liquid substance. The liquid substance then travels through the connecting element back to the evaporation chamber.

Each bracket subassembly includes at least one captive hardware fastener, which is pre-installed in the bracket subassembly and designed to be movable relative to the bracket subassembly only upon application of deliberate force with respect to the captive hardware fastener. While the captive hardware fastener is movable for installation purposes, the captive hardware fastener is not readily removable from its corresponding bracket subassembly. For example, the captive hardware can include a self-drilling screw, the body of which extends between two substantially parallel members separated by a third member, which has a straight or curved geometry.
