    摘要: An optical disc drive and a casing enclosing the optical disk drive are disclosed. The casing is a hollow and half-closed rectangular parallelepiped. A vertical end surface of the casing has an insertion opening for inserting the optical disc drive into an internal space thereof. An opposite vertical end surface of the casing is closed by a circuit board. The circuit board includes an interface connecting cable and a power supply cord respectively connected to the corresponding connection component of the optical disc drive. The casing has a bottom opening on a rear portion of the bottom thereof. A removable bottom cover openably closes the bottom opening. The optical disc drive is fixed in the internal space of the casing.

    摘要: A riser card, such as a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) card, attaches to a circuit board such as a mother board in a transverse orientation and has a first connector and a second connector attached to opposing sides of the card for receiving expansion cards. In one embodiment, the first connector is offset from the second connector with respect to an axis in the plane of the riser card. In another embodiment, the first and second connectors each have a first and last pin, and the first pin of the first card is opposite the first pin of the second connector. The riser card may mount one expansion board right side up, and the second board upside down. The first and second connectors can be female connectors which are each matable with a male connector on the corresponding expansion board, or can be card edge connectors. The expansion boards, when mated with the connectors, are substantially parallel to, but offset from the circuit board. Advantageously, the expansion boards consume less space in the housing by sharing a single riser card, and overall bus length may be substantially reduced between components in addition to providing additional, more open, or better channel space for cooling air flow. A preferred embodiment mounts centrally on a mother board, and provides two side channels for air flow cooling through the chassis of a rack-mounted web server data processor device.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an enclosure that protects an operational data storage device (preferably a common disk data storage devices with an IDE interface) from fire, flood or other hazards. The preferred embodiment comprises an enclosure which is water resistant and heat transfer protected to preserve the disk data storage device in the event of disaster involving flood or fire. Insulation, including phase change materials, are used to maintain internal temperature during normal operation and during fire conditions, so as to meet the thermal test portion of UL 72, Class 125, one hour, and the disk data storage device temperature does not exceed 125null C. The enclosure of the preferred embodiment manages humidity to an internal RH at 80% or below. The interface electronics are preferably external to the phase change material section of the enclosure, and are sacrificed during a fire, flood or other hazards. Electronic sensors are preferably used to sense fire or water conditions. The electronics detect a rise in temperature and manages the disk data storage device shut down before fire renders it inoperable. The connecting cable will be prevented from acting as a thermal path to the data storage devices during fire conditions by being routed though the insulating and phase change materials in a torturous path or through a cable cutting and retraction system engaged upon sensing of fire conditions.

The carrier has a face with a vent, a backplane, a first lateral side and second lateral side extending perpendicularly from the face to the backplane. At least one lateral side of the carrier has a periphery defining an opening. The rack has a first lateral rail and a second lateral rail configured for receiving the carrier. The carrier includes a fan mounted on the lateral rail of the rack to blow air through the opening of the carrier. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, the fan is mounted on the carrier and the rack has a lateral opening. In each case, air is vented directly from the carrier to cool the hard disk drive.

A fixture comprises a base and a stop guard, cradle and guide rails supported by the base. The disc drive base member is operatively receivingly engaged in the cradle adjacent the guide rails. The disc drive cover member is operatively abuttingly engaged at one end against the stop guard and pivoted toward the disc drive base member. Any substantial misalignment of the disc drive cover member with the disc drive base member causes the disc drive cover member to engage at least one of the guide rails and therefore be urged into proper alignment, preventing adverse contact between the disc drive cover member and the disc drive base member.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to ventilating or cooling element for airflow cooling in a digital data processing apparatus, and it is particularly suited to such apparatus having a high circuit density, or mounted within a restricted chassis or housing, such as the housing of a web server, or of a storage array device for a network server or web server. The cooling element includes a fan that is disposed at an angle to integrate its cooling air with general circulation or air flow through the chassis. The element may mount on a plate, such as the thermally conductive plate of a heat sink, that is adapted for coupling to the chassis and/or contacting a microprocessor chip, and a fan is disposed on the mounting plate at an angle to cool the plate or chip without creating obstructive cross wind. The mounting plate can be disposed within the middle portion of the chassis. The fan or cooling element can be angled so as to direct airflow towards at least a selected portion of the chassis, e.g. along a flow path to a chassis vent or opening, which may be in the rear portion. The mounting plate can also include one or more a thermally conductive heat dissipation members, such as fins or posts, and the fan may have a side-to-side tilt as well as an inclination with respect to the plane of the plate.
