The at least one light source may be controlled to provide light into the interior of the knob to illuminate the light-transmissive indicia so that it is viewable from the exterior of the knob.

An operator control device for an electrical appliance has a cover, a rotary actuator as an actuating element and a mount for the rotary actuator. The rotary actuator is arranged under the cover and has a driver disk with contacts, and a component carrier with opposing contacts. The contacts bear against the opposing contacts or conductor tracks as a function of a rotational position. The mount has a mounting frame with an axle which is rotatably mounted thereon for the rotary actuator, which axle penetrates the driver disk, the component carrier and the cover. The axle has an outer contour and the driver disk has an inner contour which corresponds thereto and is rotationally fixed with respect to the outer contour, wherein the driver disk and the axle are arranged so as to be rotationally fixed with respect to one another but axially movable.

Disclosed is a washing machine, a control panel assembly of which has an improved structure to minimize problems caused by a shaking of a rotary knob and the interference of the rotary knob with other surrounding parts. The control panel assembly of the washing machine includes a control panel, a knob guide installed on the control panel, and a rotary knob rotatably mounted on the knob guide and including a boss passing through the knob guide. The knob guide includes a boss insertion part restricting the boss to prevent the rotary knob from shaking. The boss insertion part includes an extension extended from the bottom surface of the knob guide and forming a boss insertion hole, into which the boss is inserted, therein.

A reflection surface is configured with a portion of a surface of the reflector provided inside the operation knob. The reflection surface has a shape extending in the circumferential direction centering on the axis of the operation knob and having a diameter increasing toward a front side such that the light emitted frontward from the illumination light source is reflected by the reflection surface toward the illuminated portion.

An operating knob including a first illumination portion with an annular shape and a second illumination portion, is provided around the operating knob. The operating knob is configured by a combination of an inner shaft body made of a resin and a grip ring body, allowing the inner shaft body to be fitted outward. A light shielding cap is attached to a front end portion of the inner shaft body. A cylindrical light guide portion having the first illumination portion in the front end face and a drive portion to be connected to a rotating shaft are integrally molded in the inner shaft body, and a rear end face of the cylindrical light guide portion opposes a first light emitting face. A light incident face opposes a light source and the first and second illumination portions and are illuminated by light of the light source via the light guide member.
