摘要:
Ceramic electrodes of cadmium germanate and other ternary oxide materials, provide electrodes for secondary battery cells. Open circuit voltages of 1.5 volts are attainable. The absence of crystallographic phase changes on charge/discharge is noted and renders possible the use of solid electrolytes, possibly in a unitary ceramic structure.

摘要:
A nickel/hydrogen storage battery comprises a nickel positive electrode having nickel oxide as a main active material, a negative electrode mainly composed of a hydrogen absorbing alloy capable of carrying out the electrochemical hydrogen absorbing and desorbing reaction, an alkaline electrolyte, and a separator, a zinc compound being contained in the nickel positive electrode, the negative electrode and the separator. The content of the zinc compound in terms of zinc oxide is 30-500 mg per Ah of battery capacity in the nickel positive electrode and 0.3-15 mg in the negative electrode and the separator. Thus, the expansion of the nickel positive electrode can be inhibited and the electrolyte retention of the negative electrode and the separator can be improved and the cycle life of the battery can be prolonged.

In one preferred exemplification the hydrogen storage alloy comprises(Ti.sub.2-x Zr.sub.x V.sub.4-y Ni.sub.y).sub.1-z Cr.sub.zwhere 0.0 is less than x is less than 1.5, 0.6 is less than y is less than 3.5, and z is an effective amount less than 0.20. Also disclosed is a rechargeable, electrochemical cell utilizing a negative electrode formed of the alloy.
摘要:
A battery having a zinc or zinc alloy anode, a metal oxide or hydroxide cathode and an alkaline electrolyte comprising a solution of a salt formed by the reaction of one or more acids selected from the group consisting of boric acid, phosphoric acid and arsenic acid with an alkali or earth alkali hydroxide present in a sufficient amount to produce a stoichiometric excess of hydroxide to acid in the range of 0.02 to 3.0 equivalents per liter.
摘要:
Hydrogen evolution in cells having zinc anodes is reduced or eliminated by incorporating in the cell a surfactant which is a complex phosphate ester of a surfactant of the ethylene oxide-adduct type. This surfactant is added in such a manner that, directly or upon wetting of the anode by the electrolyte, there is an adsorption of surfactant on the surface of the zinc anode material, whereby hydrogen evolution is inhibited. The surfactant is desirably present in the cell in an amount of from 0.001% to 5% by weight of the zinc component of the cell.

An improvement in accumulator batteries having a zinc anode and an oxide cathode (e.g., nickel oxide or silver oxide cathode) is disclosed. The zinc anode and/or separator part between the anode and cathode is vibrated at a frequency and amplitude sufficient to inhibit dendrite growth on the zinc anode. The electrolyte contains excess zinc such that solid zinc oxide is present in the fully charged condition. The separator may be provided with circulation enhancement means. The resulting batteries have long life with a large number of charging and discharging cycles.

A rechargeable galvanic cell having a zinc anode and a zinc-containing electrolyte which comprises an aqueous alkaline or aqueous acidic medium containing dissolved zinc ions and a quaternary ammonium compound for suppressing zinc dendrite formation during the charging cycle.
摘要:
Stable, high surface area, virtually pure zinc filaments and in particular zinc fibers and needles having a unique crystal structure consisting essentially of one or more single crystals preferentially orientated with an ''''a'''' axis parallel to the axis of the filament. The zinc fibers and needles are prepared by the electrolysis of a soluble zinc salt-containing electrolyte solution under conditions of extremely high cathode current density. Galvanic cell anodes are fabricated using the zinc fibers or needles by compression molding techniques.
