    摘要: A seal system for a motor pump unit includes a primary and a plurality of backup seals mounted in series within a seal housing. The primary seal is of a hydrostatic type and each of the backup seals is of a normally closed hydrodynamic type. Each of the primary and backup seals has a secondary seal between an axially movable seal ring thereof and the fixed seal housing, and at least one of these secondary seals is a spring-loaded, split piston ring seal. Two of the backup seals are of the Rayleigh type, where the Rayleigh pockets are formed in the seal runner, and the sealing dam is formed on the axially movable seal ring. An insert is provided in the runner of one of the backup seals, which insert is formed from a relatively harder material than the material forming the sealing dam. The other Rayleigh-type backup seal has pumping grooves extending downwardly and inwardly through the runner and toward the shaft to pump liquid into the Rayleigh pockets to ensure proper seal operation. A segmented backup shutdown seal is also provided, upstream of the two previously mentioned backup seals, which has pockets therein that pump any leakage back into the seal housing, yet in the unlikely event full system pressure appears across the segmented shutdown seal, that pressure will turn the shutdown seal into a rubbing seal with higher wear and prevent leakage from the seal housing. The seal system is designed so that the two Rayleigh-type backup seals may be mounted on a removable shaft sleeve and are removable as a unit by a single lift of the shaft sleeve. The shutdown seal is formed from two half-ring subassemblies, which are secured together and to the seal housing. The shutdown seal may be removed by disengaging the two subassemblies from the seal housing and from each other, so that the shaft need not be decoupled from its driver in the event of inspection or replacement of the shutdown seal.

    摘要: A seal for sealing between a bidirectionally rotating shaft rotatable in the forward and reverse directions and having a sealing surface thereon located in a pressurized housing containing the shaft. A seal ring mounted in the housing for movement toward and away from the shaft sealing surface and having a high pressure side, a low pressure side, a seal face opposed to the shaft seal surface and an outer face remote from the seal face and exposed to the pressure in the housing. Resilient elements urge the seal ring toward the sealing surface of the shaft. Hydrodynamic elements in the form of a plurality of spaced recesses in the seal face of the seal ring and formed so as to produce negative hydrodynamic lift in the recess and urge the seal ring toward the sealing surface of the rotating shaft during forward rotation thereof. Openings extend through the seal ring from a predetermined section of the grooved seal surface thereof to the remote face of the seal ring to accommodate flow through such openings to reduce pressure build-up in the grooves of the sealing face to prevent seal leakage during reverse rotation of the shaft. A second seal is provided between the housing and the low pressure side of the seal ring.

    摘要: This invention relates to the reduction of polymer buildup on the inner surfaces of a polymerization reactor by applying a polymer buildup resistant coating to the inner surfaces thereof, the method or process of applying said coating being the subject of this invention. An approximate monolayer coating on the inner surfaces of the reactor results from applying thereto an aqueous or organic solvent solution of the coating material by means of a hydrocarbon gas, such as propane, for example. The coating material is an organic compound or polymer which is capable of resisting polymer buildup thereon. As examples of such coating materials, there may be named the polyaromatic amines, self-condensed polyhydric phenols, tannic acid and tannates, various dyes, such as nigrosine, and the like, etc. When using hydrocarbon gas to apply the coating material, the same reaches the inner reactor surfaces in the form of a mist.     摘要: An effective seal for protecting a touchscreen and associated electronics from liquid infiltration, the seal being placed between the housing and the surface of the touchscreen and configured to surround the useful touchscreen area. The seal is preferably formed of a closed cell foam covered on the surface which contacts the touchscreen surface with a liquid impervious barrier, or an expanded polymer such as expanded PTFE. The seal may be secured to the bezel edge by a transfer adhesive coating applied to the bezel edge, except for a relatively thin edge strip along the inner edge of the bezel end, so that substantially no adhesive is present on a free surface of the seal body proximate to the window aperture of the bezel. Preferably, a smooth surface is provided for adhering the seal body to the bezel. The seal body may be compressed between the bezel and touchscreen surface to effect a seal.
