Abstract: In a computing device that includes multiple device sections, one or more rechargeable battery power sources can be placed in each device section. Not only does this approach provide valuable space for multiple batteries, but it can also present the option of powering each device section from any one or both of the battery power sources. However, using multiple battery power sources in a computing device can present challenges in effectively charging the battery power sources using an external power source. This technology adds an independent common charge controller that may bypass the charge circuits for each battery pack based on outputs from fuel gauges internal to each of the battery packs. This permits fast battery charging, while remaining within current and voltage limits that are dependent on the battery state of charge to preserve battery life.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for optimizing loading of battery inverters. A method may include determining a required power for a load, the load coupled to a plurality of inverters, the plurality of inverters coupled to a plurality of energy storage units in an energy storage system (ESS); determining a number of the plurality of energy storage units in the ESS needed to provide the required power; establishing a schedule for the determined number of the plurality of energy storage units, wherein the schedule includes a plurality of time periods for power delivery; and sending a first control signal to engage a first grouping of energy storage units for a first time period and a second control signal to engage a second grouping of energy storage units for a second time period of the plurality of time periods.

Abstract: A charger for impulsed charging of a battery includes first and second charging contacts configured to receive a battery to be charged, a DC power input having first and second terminals, and an inductor having first and second ends. The first end is selectively conductively connectable to the first terminal and the second charging contact. The second end is selectively conductively connectable to the first charging contact and the second terminal. A switch is between the second end and the second terminal such that with the switch in a first configuration, the inductor is connected across the DC power input to enable magnetic energization of the inductor, and in a second configuration, the inductor is disconnected from the DC power input and connected across the charging contacts to enable magnetic energy in the inductor to discharge to the battery. The switch is alternated between configurations during charging of the battery.
