Abstract:
An RDS receiver having dual tuners and dual antennas operates in two distinct modes, a diversity mode and a non-diversity mode. Diversity mode is when both tuners are tuned to a signal with the same program audio content and the audio from both tuners is blended together in a manner to minimize the effects of multipath distortion. In non-diversity mode, a forcing circuit isolates the tuner output signals so that one tuner provides the audio output while the other can be retuned to any other frequency for purposes of gathering RDS data.
Abstract:
A data storing method and a data searching method for the stored data for improving memory employment efficiency of RDS reception data while maintaining searching processing speed of PI code, in the data storing method and the data searching method for the stored data, read-address is set to head of PI area, there is judged whether or not the read-address agrees with PI code of storing candidate, when the read-address disagrees with PI code of storing candidate, the read-address is set to next PI storing position. Next, there is judged whether or not check of all PI code is terminated. When the check is not terminated, the processing after judgement of agreement between address PI code and PI code of storing candidate is implemented repeatedly. When there is no agreed PI code in spite of termination of check of all PI code, the storing candidate PI code and AF data are stored at the next of the rearmost of the AF data. When PI codes agree therewith each other, head of AF area of the read PI code is searched, AF data is stored in the free area.
Abstract:
A multi-function RDS button and a menu driven interface for accessing RDS features facilitates easy access to RDS functions with minimal demands upon the attention of the user. Large numbers of push buttons with cryptic labels and unintuitive push-button sequences of prior RDS radio receivers are avoided. Due to a long time-out period provided before automatically exiting the menu, the user can alternate attention between the radio and the road without losing their place in the menu or initiating an unwanted action.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a radio receiver comprising a control circuit (7) for supplying coded messages derived from a radio signal to at least one memory arrangement (12, 28), for receiving control data derived from the coded messages which control data originate from at least one memory arrangement (12, 28), and for forming the messages from the control data in a form suitable for a visual display (13) and/or a voice output circuit (14). For providing a more flexible radio receiver, a reading device (16) for reading data of an external first memory arrangement (28), and a second memory arrangement (12) are coupled to the control circuit (7). The first memory arrangement (28) is used for storing control data for region-specific road or area categories and the second memory arrangement (12) is used for storing control data for supra-regional road or area categories which have each a respective class name.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a broadcast receiver, comprising a control circuit (7) for delivering encoded messages, derived from a broadcast signal, to at least one storage device (12, 28), for receiving control data, derived from the encoded messages, from at least one storage device (12, 28), and for forming the messages from the control data in a form suitable for a display device (13) and/or a speech synthesizer circuit (14). In order to reduce the data file, given control data is stored under a respective escape code in at least one storage device (12, 28). The control data stored under an encoded message or an escape code in at least one storage device (12, 28) contains at least one spelling of a first language and given spellings of predetermined further languages if they deviate from the first language. A spelling is to be understood to mean herein, for example a phonetic notation. The control circuit (7) selects the required spelling from the control data of the escape code.
Abstract:
In a system for transmitting data, having a transmitting station and at least one receiving station, data is transmitted in packets of a first type, including a first data type identifier and data, and a second data type identifier, indicative of the type or nature of the data, is transmitted in a packet of a second type, including a further first data type identifier and the second data type identifier, wherein the first data type identifier and further first data type identifier are provided for linking the second data type identifier to the data. As the length of the first data type identifier is shorter than the length of the second data type identifier, the efficiency of the packets of the first type is improved in comparison with a system which only transmits packets of a first type, including the second data type identifier and the data. The invention is especially useful in RDS, wherein the packet of the first type is a version A group and a packet of the second type is a version B group.
Abstract:
An RDS/TMC receiver or a traffic guidance system includes a unit for indicating on a display (10) or by speech synthesis (20, 4, 5) proper names or place names, for example, alternately in the language of the user and in the language of the country the user travels through, while the other words of the message are indicated only in the user's language. The translations are found in a memory (23). The guidance system may be used, for example, a guiding and/or information system for the motorist.
Abstract:
In accordance with the operation of an operating section 14, a control section 12 performs a reception control operation and demodulates a signal passing through a band pass filter 7 for extracting a multiplex signal using a multiplex signal demodulating section 8 when receiving a broadcast signal. A block synchronization circuit 16 of a synchronization circuit 9 carries out block synchronization processing on the demodulated signal. When block synchronization is established, a synchronization determination signal is supplied to a detecting section DET and the detecting section DET determines that a broadcasting station whose radio waves are currently being received is a multiplex broadcasting station.
Abstract:
A radio receiver, in particular a vehicle radio receiver, is proposed, which is able to display or output acoustically, traffic news which is contained in digital signals. At least the data memory for the decoding of the digital traffic news and of the display or the output in the correct language is contained on a chip card, which can be inserted into the radio receiver. This makes it possible that, on the one hand, a linguistically adapted output of traffic news is possible, and, on the other hand, in the event of changes in the road network, a simple adaptation without modification of the radio receiver is made possible. Finally, it facilitates the use of the radio receiver worldwide, since the chip card allows regionally specific or country specific local codes to be taken into account.
Abstract:
The invention involves a method of transmitting a control signal that is synchronized in time with a radio program signal. The control signal may be used, for example, in a receiver to restore dynamic range reduction that occurred at the transmitter. The method includes the steps of forming a first supplemented signal by inserting the control signal and a first time-reference signal into a data stream of a radio data signal such as an RDS signal. A second supplemented signal is formed by adding a second time-reference signal to the radio program signal. The first and second time-reference signals are correlated in time. The first and second supplemented signals are transmitted.
