Abstract:
It is an object of the present invention to provide a hinge apparatus that can perform both the rotating function along with a rising and lowering action to allow the platen cover to cover the thick book original both horizontally and parallelly without damaging the book or causing mis-positioning of said book. It is also an object of the present invention to provide a hinge apparatus that can both pivotably open and rise and lower parallel to the copy machine body in one easy operation. Another object of the present invention is to provide a hinge apparatus which is of a simple construction and is capable of both rotating open and rising and lowering parallel to the copy machine body in one easy operation.

Abstract:
An image reading system provided with an image sensing means to convert the image of an open-faced document to electronic signals in fine division in the viewing direction and a vertical direction intersecting said viewing direction to reduce reading time and regularize the image quality of a read pen-faced document, wherein the pixels having a binarized value of pixel value D(n) among pixels g of an image read by said image sensing means different from the pixels having a binarized value of pixel value D(n+1) of adjacent pixels on one side in a vertical direction are counted as border pixels, the difference &Dgr;D of pixel values is calculated between said border pixels and adjacent pixels on one side thereof, and correction of the pixel values of a pixel array is corrected in accordance with the sharpness of an image quality specified by the sum of said difference and the number of border pixels in a pixel array in a vertical direction for each pixel position in a viewing direction.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus includes a linear sensor unit for reading the side shape of a document on a document platen and outputting the outcome of the reading as an image data and a detector for detecting a binder based on the presence of a space (a protrusion) in the image data inputted by the linear sensor unit. This apparatus infallibly judges that such an object as a binder, which is unnecessary for image reading, is present in the document.
Abstract:
A scan module for a document copying machine which is provided with its own document scanner. The scan module is provided with a housing suitable for releasable fixing to the document copying machine, the housing being provided with a light exit opening optically coupled to the document scanner of the document copier machine via the image platen. The scan module is also provided with a light source and reflector.
Abstract:
The document scanner of the present invention includes a reading assembly of simple, compact and light-weight construction. The reading assembly includes an optical system having a relatively short focal length. The reading assembly is thus simply configured in a compact manner close to the document to be scanned. The optical system is also configured to extend in a particular direction beyond the document viewing area for improved resolution of images from a bound document adjacent the binding. The reading assembly further includes a compact and light-weight illumination source which is low in power consumption, and thus, may be powered by batteries. The stand-alone document scanner of the present invention is particularly suited to portability.
Abstract:
A book page document image reading apparatus includes a page turning mechanism, a reading mechanism for reading an image of a spread book page document placed thereon with a binding section being aligned to a reference position, an image size changing mechanism for changing a size of a read image read by the reading mechanism, a storage mechanism for storing therein image data corresponding to an image size changing operation, and a mechanism for differentiating a range for storage of the image data having been subjected in the storage mechanism when a book page document is read with the same size from a range for storage of image data having been subjected to the image size changing operation in the storage mechanism when a book page document is read with a changed size.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus is for reading a document such as a book from above with the target faces thereof placed upwardly. The apparatus allows for correction of distortions of the image, without relying on the background color of the target faces of the document. An image processing device detects the boundary between the document and a document-guiding device (the document edge) on the basis of the image read by the image reading device and corrects distortions of the image with reference to the detected boundary.
Abstract:
A platenless book scanner with line buffering performs electronic perspective correction to account for rotation of the spine of a non-planar bound document relative to a reference line in a support plane of the platenless book scanner. A pre-scan of the non-planar bound document is performed to provide a geometrical contour map of the bound document. The geometrical contour map, which identifies displacement of the bound document from the support plane, is analyzed to calculate an angular offset between a spine of the bound document and the reference line in the support plane. The angular offset is used to identify a minimum number of scan line buffers for recording image data, from a set of scan line buffers. Once the minimum number of scan line buffers is filled with recorded image data, distortions caused by displacements of the non-planar bound document from the support plane and skew of the bound document relative to the reference line in the support plane are corrected. A scan line of image data is corrected by polling locations in the set of scan line buffers in accordance with the geometrical contour map, and by interpolating the polled locations to provide output pixels. To correct additional scan lines of image data some of the image data stored in the minimum number of image buffers is replaced after recording more image data.
Abstract:
This invention provides a flat-edge scanner capable of scanning a thick book without any distortion at the protruding binding edge. The binding edge of the book is placed at the corner of a scanning glass window and the frame supporting the glass window so that the book can lie snugly over the window. The scanning window area is extended to the edge of the frame supporting the scanning window. All the optical system and the driving mechanism lie inside the boundary of the scanning window to increase the scanning range.
