    摘要: A method for manufacturing a bevel gear member, comprises the steps of providing a bevel gear blank having a gearhead, forming gear teeth on the gearhead of the bevel gear blank by simultaneously cutting gear tooth top land, gear tooth side profile and a bottom land to form an unfinished bevel gear member using a face hobbing process, and machining at least one selected surface of the unfinished bevel gear member using the top lands of said gear teeth as a datum for centering the unfinished bevel gear member, thus forming a finished product. The method is applicable for manufacturing the bevel gear member both with shaft axially extending from the gearhead and without the shaft. The bevel gear members manufactured with this method exhibit reduced runout and require simpler, less expensive tooling.

    摘要: A method is described for assuring concentricity of a gear's pitch circle with its axis, the pitch circle having a non-constant radius about the axis. The method comprises the steps of: determining the gear's pitch circle and its position of maximum radial offset from the gears axis; positioning the gear in a chuck having a plurality of simultaneously movable jaws, the chuck having an axis which is continually concentric with respect to its jaws as they move, the position of maximum radial offset being positioned adjacent a chuck jaw so that when the jaws are moved to grip the gear, the axis of the gear is offset from the chuck axis by action of the jaws on the gear; placing the chuck and gripped gear in a machine tool adapted to machine the gear concentrically with the chuck's axis; and operating the machine tool to remove sufficient material from the gripped gear to bring the gear's axis into concentricity with the gear's pitch circle.

    摘要: An induction heating device for heating metal ring gears having an outer cylindrical periphery including the teeth and an inner cylindrical surface which is generally concentric with the periphery and with a central axis. The ring gear is rotated about the axis in close proximity with an encircling inductor whereby the teeth of the gear are inductively heated for subsequent quench hardening. In this device there is an improvement including a rotatable support member having at least three outwardly movable, pivoted arms which can be adjusted into a set position and means for allowing limited movement of the arms with respect to the set position.

    摘要: Hydraulically actuated spline arbor and chuck devices having a novel configuration for the spline teeth to produce axially spaced straightening engagement and accurate centering of a splined part engaged by the arbor or chuck. The hydraulic actuation includes novel sealing means allowing a significant increase in the maximum hydraulic pressure obtainable and maximum permissible expansion of the spline without leakage as compared to prior seals rendering practical the relatively greater expansion for registration on pitch diameter or side teeth than in the case of cylindrical configurations. The invention is applicable to a variety of spline configurations including involute and square splines.

    摘要: A chuck is provided employing a dish-shaped arbor with an elongated shoulder portion inclined rearwardly from a collar section to an outer periphery attached to an upstanding flange portion having a work-gripping face. Upon axial flexure of the arbor, the novel combination of the elongated shoulder and a tapered expander portion co-operate to impart parallel radial expansion of the work-gripping face to a workpiece bore thereby causing the bore to be gripped in substantially full-area abutment rather than in ''''line'''' contact as in prior art arbors. Also provided are air passages for supplying air under pressure to an annular groove in the surface of the work-gripping face to prevent possible entry of abrasive particles from entering between the work-gripping face and the workpiece bore.
