    摘要: A sensor includes a light source (24) and photosensor (28) which are disposed on opposite sides of a fluid flow passageway. A resilient member is fixedly supported at one end or edge and entrained in the fluid (14) for varying the amount of light incident on the photosensor (28) from the light source (24) as a function of the amount of deflection of the resilient member caused by motion of the fluid (14) in the passageway. The resilient member may be an optical fiber (18) which transmits light from the light source (24) toward the photosensor (28). Alternatively, the resilient member may be a curtain (62) which variably blocks propagation of light from the light source (24) to the photosensor (28). The passageway may be defined by a container (12) which is filled with the fluid (14), and the sensor constructed to sense rotational or linear motion of the container (12) relative to the fluid (14). In this case, the fluid resists movement due to stationary inertia, thereby causing relative deflection of the entrained resilient member. Alternatively, the passageway may be maintained stationary, and a fluid directed to flow therethrough which causes deflection of the resilient member and enables measurement of the rate of fluid flow through the passageway.

    摘要: The flowmeter includes a piston that is biased by a spring to a neutral position within an encircling collar, and the piston is movable relative to the collar by and in the direction of the fluid flow to be measured. Movement of the piston relative to the collar increases the fluid flow through through one or more slots provided in one of such components. A Hall device senses movement of a magnet connected to the piston, and produces an output signal. A linear relationship between the output signal and the rate of flow of the fluid can be achieved by utilization of a magnetic member whose magnetic intensity or cross-sectional shape varies along its length, or by causing the magnet to move along a curve or other path of travel that varies its distance from the probe of the Hall device.

    摘要: A flow meter including a variable area obstruction which is mounted in a conduit. Inputs to a differential pressure transducer are positioned in the conduit on opposite sides of the obstruction to measure fluid pressure differential across the obstruction. In one embodiment, a sleeve is secured within the conduit thereof substantially separated from the conduit so as to prevent fluid condensation on the sleeve, and to create a dead end pocket between the conduit and the sleeve for collecting liquids from the conduit end preventing them from contacting the obstruction. The variable area obstruction comprises an elastic membrane that includes first, second and third leaves which extend into the flow stream and are compliant to fluid flow so that an increase in flow rate increases the deflection of the leaves and increases the through flow area through the obstruction. The first leaf is secured at a fixed end adjacent a first portion of the interior surface of the conduit and extends in a first direction to a free end preferably positioned adjacent a second portion of the interior surface of the conduit opposite the first portion. The second and third leaves are located adjacent opposite sides of the first leaf and extend from their fixed ends toward their free ends in directions which are generally opposite to the first direction.

    摘要: The upwardly extending outlet of a pump contains a non-floating permanent magnet which tends to assume a lower end position but is propelled upwardly in response to admission of a metered quantity of liquid into the outlet to initiate the emission of a signal by a sensor. The emission of such signal persists as long as the actuator remains above its lower end position. The sensor is connected with the resetting input of a counter by way of an OR circuit. The n-th output of the counter transmits a signal to an alarm signal generating circuit in response to transmission of a certain number of consective timing pulses to its counting input prior to transmission of a signal to the resetting input. The timing pulses are transmitted by a generator which also transmits pulses to the pump to thus determine the frequency of admission of liquid into the outlet. A rectangular wave oscillator receives signals from the sensor and transmits a series of signals to the OR circuit with a delay which equals or approximates the length of the interval between two consecutive timing pulses. The oscillator starts to transmit signals to the OR circuit only if the signal which is emitted by the sensor persists during the aforementioned delay. This ensures that no alarm signal is generated if the viscosity of pumped liquid is so high that the actuator is incapable of returning to its lower end position during the interval between successive admissions of liquid into the outlet.

    摘要: A flow meter or monitor arranged on a conduit section through which a medium to be monitored flows includes an actuating element extending through an opening in a wall of the conduit section, with a flow pressure plate of the actuating element positioned in the flow path of the medium. The actuating element is mounted on a support plate and is deflectable against the force of a spring with a deflectable outer end projecting into a housing positioned outwardly of the opening in the conduit section. The housing may be detached from the conduit section. The end of the actuating element projecting into the housing is equipped with a permanent magnet to operate a reed contact switch to be in an electrical circuit when the actuating element is deflected. The switch is surrounded by a protective cover and is accommodated in a through-hole in the housing. The support plate can be detached and inserted into a recess of the housing and is prevented from rotation with respect to the housing.
