Abstract:
There is proposed a novel method for manufacturing high-purity metallic chromium that can eliminate the problems of reduced heating capability of the furnace, contamination of produced metallic chromium and other disadvantages related to the operation of the furnace. According to the invention, one or more than one of easily sulfidable metals selected from Sn, Ni and Cu are added to crude metallic chromium containing impurities and the mixture is loaded into a vacuum furnace equipped with heating elements of graphite and heated to 1,200.degree. to 1,500.degree. C. in an atmosphere with reduced pressure of between 0.1 and 5 torr.
Abstract:
A binder useful for agglomerating a concentrated ore material in the presence of water comprising (a) a water-soluble polymer selected from the group consisting of alkali metal salts of carboxymethyl celluylose or carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose and (b) sodium tripolyphosphate, a process for agglomerating the concentrated ore material using this binder, and the agglomerated product of this process, are disclosed.
Abstract:
A process is provided for the agglomeration or pelletizing of metallic ores in the presence of water with a binder containing an alkali metal salt of carboxymethyl cellulose in an amount of at least 0.01%, calculated on the weight of the dry ore material, in combination with one or more salts derived from an alkali metal and a low-molecular weak acid having a pK value higher than 3 and a molecular weight lower than 500 in an amount of at least 2%, calculated on the weight of the alkali metal salt of carboxymethyl cellulose.
Abstract:
A method of treating waste produced during stainless steel making is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of kneading a sludge cake with a mixture of dust and scale to obtain a kneaded mass, adding an organic binder and eventually adding water with an inorganic binder to said kneaded mass, shaping said kneaded mass into a briquette, and heating said briquette at a low temperature. The briquette obtained can be used as a ferroalloy making raw material.Metal oxides contained in the briquette are reduced by a dry reduction refining added with a carbonaceous reducing agent and eventually with a flux to separate usable metals.
Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem, in methods for producing a metal or alloy by reducing a mixture that contains an oxide ore, of providing an oxide ore smelting method with good productivity and efficiency. The present invention is an oxide ore smelting method for producing a metal or alloy by reducing a mixture that contains an oxide ore, the method comprising at least: a mixing step S1 for mixing an oxide ore with a carbonaceous reducing agent; a mixture-molding step S2 for molding the mixture obtained to obtain a mixture-molded body; and a reducing step S3 for heating the mixture-molded body obtained at a specified reducing temperature in a reducing furnace.
Abstract:
A method for producing briquettes from pellet fines, DRI sludge, DRI fines and dust from DRI dedusting systems and, in this way, reincorporating same into steel production processes, thereby contributing to the re-use of the by-products of these processes, as well as minimizing the stocks of these types of materials and, consequently, helping to improve the environment. The invention comprises: grinding and sieving the pellet fines and the DRI sludge; sieving the DRI fines; storing the dust from DRI dedusting systems; briquetting with roller presses, using liquid sodium silicate and bentonite or composite Portland cement as binders; sieving the briquettes; shredding the edges and waste of the fresh briquettes; and curing in order to improve the physical properties thereof, such as strength. Once cured, the fresh briquette can be stored or sent directly to direct-reduced iron production processes for use as part of the feedstock for reduction ovens or reactors.
Abstract:
Methods for the treatment of metallic particles such as heavy metal particles and objects contaminated with the metallic particles. For the treatment of objects contaminated with the metallic particles, a stabilizing composition may be applied to the object with or without a fixation agent. For the treatment of free-flowing metallic particles, an agglomeration agent may be used with or without a stabilizing agent.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a manufacturing method of crude copper from low-grade copper sludge, one embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: (1) calcining a low-grade copper sludge (step 1); (2) producing a mixture by adding at least one selected from a group consisting of binder, flux and combinations thereof to the calcined low-grade copper sludge (step 2); (3) producing a briquette by compression molding the mixture (step 3); (4) melting and reducing by charging the briquette into a submerged arc furnace with adding flux (step 4); and (5) separating crude copper and slag produced by melting and reducing (step 5).
