摘要: The invention provides apparatus for detecting and then dealing with a leak in a plumbing system. Flow sensor means detect any unauthorized flow of water in the system and send a signal to a microprocessor control means. The control means then activates an alarm, isolates the leaking part of the system by closing normally open valves, and then operates ejecting means for ejecting water from the leaking part of the system safely to a drain.

摘要: A fluid pressure entry tap valve for use with pressurized pipes comprising a Wye device with an on-off valve of the ball type in each of two forks of the Wye. Preferably, one fork is in-line with the stem of the Wye while the other fork is at an angle thereto. The Wye stem is externally threaded for complementary engagement with a pipe saddle structure. The saddle structure is designed for either clamping to the pipe, or for being welded thereto.During use the Wye fork which is straight in-line with the stem has it's ball valve opened so a wet tap drill can be inserted to make an opening into the pipe under pressure. Then after removal of the drill the associated valve is closed. A curved guide directional shoe then is mounted upon the Wye, the valve opened again, and the guide inserted through the Wye into the pressurized pipe. Then the ball valve in the angled other fork of the Wye can be opened and a detector head of leak detector apparatus inserted therethrough into the pipe while still under pressure.The method of installing a Wye device with a pressurized pipe, tapping the pipe while under pressure, inserting a directional guide structure, and then inserting a detector head into the pressurized pipe while still under pressure in the desired direction for detecting leaks therein is also part of this invention.

摘要: An inflatable seal for an annular cavity which is to be filled with magnetic rubber mold material utilized to inspect surfaces lining the cavity. The seal comprises an oblong tubular member sealed on each end and formed into a circle with the sealed ends engaged to form a circular ring. A conduit connects into the tubular member so that the seal may be inflated and deflated and a plurality of conduits pass through the tubular member a predetermined distance to position the seal within the cavity and provide means for supplying rubber mold material to the seal portion of the cavity and bleed air or evacuate the cavity as the rubber mold material is being injected thereto.

摘要: An apparatus and method for detecting leaks in blowout preventors provides a capsule which forms an envelope about a portion of the blowout preventor where leaks exterior to the blowout preventor might occur. The capsule preferably is formed by a plurality of curved capsule segments which abut and radially assemble about flanges of the BOP system. The capsule segments carrying mating flanges which bolt together upon assembly to secure the capsule segments about the BOP stack. The interior of the flanges provides an inner space which collects leaks which might occur. The interior space is pneumatically connected to a relay which is attached to the capsule means for responding to the occurrence of the accumulated leak within the capsule.

摘要: The leak detection system includes a leak detection sensor for sensing the pressure of fluid product in a supply line and holding the flow rate of the fluid through the supply line to a value below a maximum when the sensed pressure is below a predetermined value. The sensor is connected to the supply line in proximity to a pump. A pressure responsive valve is connected in the supply line between the sensor and a dispensing nozzle for sensing pressure and stopping the flow of fluid product through the line when the pressure is below a minimum value. The pressure responsive valve allows the line pressure to build to a value sufficient to allow the sensor to complete its sensing cycle and permit full fluid flow.

摘要: A portable system for early detection of leaks from suspect piping fittings, for example, as used on the "Christmas tree" portion of a gas well provides an encapsulating bladder which sealably encapsulates the suspect fitting and collects leaks from the fitting. The apparatus provides, in the preferred embodiment, a bladder which can encase any suspect portion of the Christmas tree (or like piping system), such as for example, the choke jacket or other like fittings where maximum turbulence occurs as when gas or oil mixed with sand flows through the fitting. In the preferred embodiment, the collection of a leak within the bladder causes a regulator to operate a control valve and halt the flow of gas, oil, or like flowing material through the piping system of which the suspect fitting is a part. The system can be applied to any other similar existing and operating piping arrangement where the detection of leaks from suspect fittings is desirable. The portable bladder and shut off arrangement of the present invention has particular application in the offshore oil and gas industry, where it can perform a safety function on unmanned gas/oil well platforms.

摘要: A self-swelling leakage-preventing material is produced by reacting under heat a mixture of a copolymer of a lower olefin such as isobutene with maleic anhydride, a polymer emulsion having compatibility with the copolymer, such as an acrylic polymer emulsion, and a compound having at least two functional groups in a molecule selected from the group consisting of a hydroxy group, amino group and epoxy group, such as ethylene glycol, until a crosslinked product having a swelling ratio of 5-40 times is obtained. The mixture itself may be shaped into a suitable form prior to the reaction. A core material such as a non-woven fabric may be impregnated with the mixture prior to the reaction.

摘要: To inspect an internal zone of a tubular cavity having an open end, for example, a zone of possible damage in a heat-exchanger tube, an elastically hardenable casting plastic is transported to the zone and cast against the surface embraced by the internal zone, and after hardening to an elastic casting, is pulled from the zone for inspection outside of the open end of the cavity. Being elastic, the casting is not permanently deformed when pulled from the zone, the casting providing an undistorted physical image of the surface within the zone, permitting a determination of possible damage including pitting, cracks and the like.
