Provided is a sealing material having low hardness, low density, and excellent sealing properties. A sealing material, made by vulcanizing and foaming a blend containing: a thermoplastic resin; a foaming agent; a vulcanizing agent; and a rubber component containing a rubber copolymer of ethylene, a non-conjugate diene, and an α-olefin with 3 or more carbon atoms; wherein the blend contains 2 to 4 mass parts of stearic acid and 5 to 7 mass parts of CaO in 100 mass parts of the rubber component, and the 50% compressive stress of the sealing material is 100 kPa or less.

A sealant composition having between 30 wt % and 60 wt % of a dispersion of a hydrophilic binder; between 30 wt % and 70 wt % of a filler; between 0.05 wt % and 1 wt % of a thickener, wherein the pigment volume concentration (PVC) is between 40% and 80%. A heat-activated sound and vibration damping sealant composition is provided. The composition includes dried automotive paint powder and an unsaturated polymer, where the paint powder reacts with the unsaturated polymer when the composition is heated to greater than 200° F. (80° C.). Upon heating, composition expands and increases in tensile strength. The composition may be provided in the form of a tape which is adhered to a substrate such as an automotive or appliance part and then exposed to elevated temperatures such as those encountered in automotive, appliance, or other commercial paint bake processes. Thereafter, the composition provides sound and vibration damping properties.

A novel expandable composition and method for using the same are disclosed. The disclosed method relates to using the composition, for example, as an automotive cavity sealant. The inventive composition normally is a combination of at least one base polymer, at least one expansion or blowing agents, at least one hydrocarbon resin, at least one curing agent or catalyst and optionally at least one additives such as a supplemental polymer, colorant, tackifier, processing oil, among others.

A liner is secured to the interior of the cap, preferably by being compression molded in situ on the base. The liner consists essentially of a multiplicity of alternating layers of a matrix polymer material such as EVA and a barrier material such as EVOH to resist transmission of gas, water vapor and/or flavorants through the liner. The matrix polymer material preferably is preblended with a compatibilizer material such as a maleic anhydride grafted polymer that ties the matrix polymer material to the barrier material.
