Abstract:
A method, computer program product, and a signaling system for conveying caller identification information of a called party to a forward-to telephone device in a communications system. A call set up message is received at a switching system servicing a called telephone device. The call set up message is determined to be forwarded to a switching system servicing a forward-to telephone device. Caller identification information of the called telephone device is inserted into a caller identification field of the call set up message.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for filtering and prioritizing instant messaging threaded conversations in an instant messaging system based on thread content. The instant messaging client analyzes an incoming message to determine the thread subject. Based on the thread subject analysis, the client determines the priority level associated with the incoming message. The message is then delivered and displayed to the recipient according to the priority level. The present invention also allows a participant initiating a thread of conversation to override filter settings on a messaging client. The authority to override settings may be predicated on an external list, such as a corporate telephone directory. As a result, the participant, having some authority or rights to override the recipient's instant messaging settings, may be allowed to conduct a messaging session with the recipient.
Abstract:
A method and implementing system are provided in which a telephone unit or other telecommunications unit is programmed to transmit codes to a receiving telecommunications unit which has a vibration capability. Individuals are enabled to transmit response signals which are effective to cause predetermined vibration patterns in the receiving unit of a hearing-impaired individual. Such vibration patterns are predefined to represent predetermined answers. The vibration patterns are readily felt and interpreted by hearing-impaired and other individuals.
Abstract:
A method and system for remotely and automatically selecting and activating a profile of a telephone. In particular, a user defines telephone profile activation information and communicates this information to the telephone to activate a desired profile during a certain event. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention includes a calendar application whereby the user may input scheduling information and profile associations so that calendar information and profile associations are transmitted by the calendar application to the telephone and activated upon occurrence and for the duration of an event. In an alternate embodiment, the method of the present invention includes having the telephone update the calendar application. The preset invention is capable of working in different time zones by converting the calendar information into the current time zone of the telephone.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus in a data processing system for presenting a set of objects within the data processing system. Responsive to detecting movement of a pointer over an object within the set of objects, an object type is identified for the object. Presentation of the object is then magnified based on the object type.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for using electronic documents within a smart phone. A merchant, legal organization, or other entity provides an electronic document to a subscriber as proof of registration for a service or of legal entitlement. At the time of registration, the subscriber registers a phone number of a phone at which the subscriber desires to receive the issued electronic document. After the electronic document is created, the organization transmits the electronic document to the phone at the registered phone number. The receiving smart phone allows the subscriber to manage the electronic document within the smart phone.
Abstract:
A system and method are presented for receiving directory information from directory assistance to an electronic communication device. Electronic communication devices may include, but are not limited to telephones, facsimile machines and electronic organizers. The system and method as described herein allows a user of an electronic communication device to contact directory assistance to obtain directory information and subsequently have the information transmitted to the directory of the device. Thus, the information is electronically transferred to the device without intervention from the user. The transfer may include an update of an existing directory entry within the electronic communication device or the creation of a new entry. The system and method as described herein minimizes the tedious and laborious task of creating and updating directory entries for the user.
Abstract:
A keyboard that may be utilized as a pointing device for disabled users is presented. The keyboard has one or more large buttons that allows the keyboard to be toggled between two different states. The first state corresponds to using the keyboard as a pointing device. A movement sensor is activated that may detect movement of the keyboard. The detected movement of the keyboard is then used by a computer system to control the movement of a cursor about a display screen. Additionally, one or more keys on the keyboard are grouped together to form compound keys that correspond to the pointing device buttons. The second state of the keyboard corresponds to that of standard keyboard operation in which a user may utilize the keyboard to type in letters, numbers, and commands in the typical fashion.
Abstract:
Access to the Internet is provided using a plurality of bookmark sets. A plurality of bookmark sets are stored in a computer system having a browser, each bookmark set including a respective set of Uniform Resource Locators (URLs). One of the bookmark sets is designated as an active bookmark set in the browser. Browser based access to the Internet is allowed according to the URLs in the active bookmark set. When a request to retrieve an Internet file from a designated URL is detected, e.g., by hyperlink, the designated URL is checked against the URLs in the active bookmark set. Only if there is a match between the designated URL and a respective URL in the active bookmark set is the request allowed to proceed. The creation of as well as other actions on a bookmark set is associated with one or more passwords.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and media for processing and clearing a check are disclosed. Embodiments include hardware and/or software for generating an e-check in response to receipt of a paper check, by which a merchant performs the manual data entry for the merchant, the merchant's bank, the Federal Reserve Bank, and the purchaser's bank clearing procedures. The paper check is electronically scanned at the point of sale (POS) terminal to create a check object (the ‘e-check’) that contains the binary data of the check information, a scanned image of the paper check, and identification data from the purchaser. Then, the check object is submitted to the check writer's, or purchaser's bank, for automated clearing without having to process the physical document any further.
