Abstract:
Automated analysis of user search behavior is provided. Data on user searches is maintained in a user search database. Relevance factors are determined for each search result included in a given search session where the relevance factors provide an indication of user satisfaction with particular search results included in the session. The relevance factors for each search result are analyzed by a relevance classification module for classifying each search result in terms of its relevance to an associated search query. The result of the relevance classification may assign a relevance classification and associated confidence level to each analyzed search result as to whether the search result is acceptable, unacceptable or partially acceptable relative to the search query that resulted in the search result. Relevance classifications for each analyzed search result may be stored for future use, for example, for diagnostic analysis of the operation of a given search mechanism.
Abstract:
A unilateral feedback power amplifier utilizes new feedback techniques and devices to make the amplified high-frequency signal unilateral, let the output power, power gain and impedance matching simultaneously accomplish the optimal values, and enhance the stability of the system. In this feedback amplifier, a generalized multi-port feedback circuit is in shunt with the input terminal and the output terminal of the power transistor. This generalized multi-port feedback circuit receives an amplified high-frequency signal and eliminates the reverse admittance of the amplified high-frequency signal to let the admittance value of the output amplified high-frequency signal approach zero so as to be unilateral. Moreover, the generalized multi-port feedback power amplifier differs from the conventional power amplifier of cascaded architecture in that the ground terminal of the power transistor is directly connected to the system ground. Therefore, the heat-radiating problem of the power transistor can be greatly improved.
Abstract:
A method and system for specifically detecting perfectly matched probe-target hybrids by annealing a hairpin-based probe to a nucleic acid target under conditions favoring the formation of perfectly matched targets over mismatched targets, and electrochemically detecting the annealed probe. Sensitivity of detection can be enhanced by catalyzed reporter deposition of probe signal prior to electrochemical detection. Specificity can be enhanced by including hairpin-based competitor probes in the annealing step. The detection assay is particularly applicable to typing single nucleotide polymorphisms by DNA sandwich hybridization.
Abstract:
A redundant external storage virtualization computer system. The redundant storage virtualization computer system includes a host entity for issuing an IO request, a redundant external storage virtualization controller pair coupled to the host entity for performing an IO operation in response to the IO request issued by the host entity, and a plurality of physical storage devices for providing storage to the computer system. Each of the physical storage devices is coupled to the redundant storage virtualization controller pair through a point-to-point serial signal interconnect. The redundant storage virtualization controller pair includes a first and a second storage virtualization controller both coupled to the host entity. In the redundant storage virtualization controller pair, when the second storage virtualization controller is not on line, the first storage virtualization controller will take over the functionality originally performed by the second storage virtualization controller.
Abstract:
A method for preparing polymeric membranes is disclosed, which has the following steps: (a) forming a casting solution by dissolving cellulose triacetate (CTA) and polyether-sulfone (PES) in a solvent mixture containing n-methyl pyrroridone (NMP) and hydrogen chloride (HCl); (b) forming a membrane from said casting solution; and (c) recovering said membrane. The method of present invention provides an asymmetrical, microporous, polymeric membrane with a high recovery rate of nucleic acids and desirable bulk and surface properties. Also, the membrane so-produced is useful to the application of material separations by filtration and the like, especially the condensation of nucleic acids from a crude sample by filtration.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal panel and method for fabricating the same are provided. A plurality of photo spacers and ball spacers are disposed between a color filter substrate and an array substrate. The device for simultaneously applying photo spacers and ball spacers exhibits the ability to eliminate force impact and overcome problems such as touch mura and sound mura.
Abstract:
A single reflective light valve projection device comprising a non-telecentric lighting system, a projection lens and a reflective light valve is provided. The non-telecentric lighting system comprises a light source and a lens. The light source provides a light beam. The lens is disposed in the transmission path of the light beam. The projection lens is disposed behind the lens and in the transmission path of the light beam. The reflective light valve is disposed between the lens of the non-telecentric lighting system and the projection lens and in the transmission path of the light beam. The reflective light valve comprises many horizontally aligned rows of pixels. A line joining the center of the projection lens to the center of the lens forms an angle smaller than π/4 with respect to a horizontal line to provide side projection in the horizontal direction.

Abstract:
A biodegradable and water-resistant paper product which has the compositions of 8-30% weight of a biodegradable and water-resistant agent selected from the group consisting of calcium stearate, cellulose stearate, calcium palmitate and cellulose palmitate, 92-70% weight of pulp, based on the sum of the dry weight of pulp and water-resistant agent; surfactant selected from the group consisting of rosin soap, sodium oleate, sodium stearate, and sodium palmitate; and aggregating agent as alum. The paper product is prepared by a method which includes the steps of: (a) preparing a pulp aqueous slurry at a consistency of about 4%; (b) adding surfactant to the slurry; (c) thereafter, adding between 8-30% weight of a biodegradable and water-resistant agent to the slurry to form a slurry mixture; (d) refining the slurry mixture at a consistency of about 4% to a desired drainage; (e) diluting the refined slurry mixture and adding an aggregating agent thereto to form a furnish; and (f) after step (e), forming the furnish to obtain biodegradable and water-resistant paper board or directly a paper utensil. The forming step can be through a hot-press at a temperature of 115.degree. to 170.degree. C.
Abstract:
A method for efficiently storing data into a data storage system containing parity data comprises the steps of: determining the data storage units and the portions of each data storage unit where the data will be stored; determining the number of times the data units are accessed to calculate parity data for the new data, to store the new data, and to store the parity data using the complementary mode; determining the number of times the data units are accessed to calculate parity data for the new data, to store the new data, and to store the parity data using the noncomplementary mode; comparing the number times the data units are accessed using the complementary mode to the number of times the data units are accessed using the noncomplementary mode; calculating the parity data with the mode that requires the fewest number of accesses; and storing the calculated parity data and the new data in the data storage units. Thereby, the present invention minimizes the number of times the disk must be accessed to calculate parity.
