    摘要: A spread spectrum system may include a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is configured to transmit a signal having at least one channel, where the signal may include a reference signal, an information signal and a frequency offset between the reference signal and the information signal. The receiver may receive the transmitted signal from the transmitter and mix the received signal in order to retrieve the information signal from the received signal. This allows the receiver to operate at low power (e.g., 10 uW-100 uW).

    摘要: A system, methods, devices and computer program products for controlling the operation of at least one electronic appliance, e.g. a TV, a music system, a lighting system, a kitchen appliance or an alarm system, located within a local area. The system has a mobile terminal located within the local area, the mobile terminal being configured to transmit a short-range radio signal to one or more short-range devices located within the local area. Each short-range device of the plurality of short-range devices located within the local area is configured to receive a short-range radio signal from the mobile terminal, perform a signal measurement of signal delay, signal strength, or both signal delay and signal strength of said short-range radio signal received from the mobile terminal, and transmit information about said measurement to an electronic apparatus. The electronic apparatus is configured to subsequently receive this information about the signal measurements from the plurality of short-range devices. In response thereto, the electronic apparatus is operable to determine the location of the mobile terminal, and control the operation of the at least one electronic appliance in dependence of the determined location of the mobile terminal.

    摘要: Methods, apparatus, and systems are described, in which mobile stations in gaps between conventional cells obtain access to high speed data services by initiating an ad hoc, peer-to-peer connection with an intermediary mobile station and transmitting an access request message to the intermediary mobile station for relaying to a nearby base station. Upon receiving such an access request, a base station determines the approximate location of the mobile station, estimates an angular direction from the base station to the mobile station, and forms a directed antenna beam aimed towards the mobile station for transmission of high speed data to the mobile station. Corresponding techniques in which a base station initiates the establishment of a high speed data link are also disclosed.

    摘要: Two or more video streams including a high quality video stream and a low quality video stream are simultaneously transmitted to the mobile communication device over the wireless network. All of the video streams carry the same video content but with different video quality. The high quality video stream is transmitted with a relatively low margin and the low quality video stream is transmitted with a relatively high margin. The mobile communication device can select the high quality video stream when channel conditions are favorable, and may select the low quality video stream when the channel conditions are not good enough to support the high quality video stream.

    摘要: The wireless communication device and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. Accordingly, a transmitting wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel mapping unit, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel mapping unit, used during the multiple-frequency mode. The multi-channel mapping unit modulates input data to output a modulated data stream for each of multiple adjacent frequency channels that, when combined, produce a multiple-frequency signal with reduced peak-to-average ratio. A receiving wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel demodulator, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel demodulator, used during the multiple-frequency mode.
