Abstract:
A method of producing compound nanorods and thin films under a controlled growth mode is described. The method involves ablating compound targets using an ultrafast pulsed laser and depositing the ablated materials onto a substrate. When producing compound nanorods, external catalysts such as pre-deposited metal nanoparticles are not involved. Instead, at the beginning of deposition, simply by varying the fluence at the focal spot on the target, a self-formed seed layer can be introduced for nanorods growth. This provides a simple method of producing high purity nanorods and controlling the growth mode. Three growth modes are covered by the present invention, including nanorod growth, thin film growth, and nano-porous film growth.
Abstract:
A construct for heating a food item in a microwave oven comprises a base, a wall extending upwardly from the base, a microwave energy shielding element overlying at least a portion of the wall, and a microwave energy diffusing element circumscribed by the microwave energy shielding element, where the microwave energy diffusing element includes a plurality of microwave energy reflective elements within a microwave energy transparent area.
Abstract:
A fume hood system having a decommissioned mode. A fume hood may be required to maintain a minimum flow from its enclosure holding fume type substances via an exhaust external to the hood. However, if the fume hood is considered not in use or not containing fume type substances, it may be put into a decommissioned mode not necessarily having a flow requirement. This mode may be entered by pressing a sequence of buttons on a monitor, operating a switch, receiving a signal from a building management system, or the like, provided that certain criteria for non-use are met by the fume hood. The decommissioned mode may also be entered or exited automatically. Status of the fume hood, as to in-use or decommissioned, may be reported to a building management system for monitoring, reporting, and/or command purposes.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a one-step process for producing and depositing size-selected nanoparticles onto a substrate surface using ultrafast pulsed laser ablation of solid target materials. The system includes a pulsed laser with a pulse duration ranging from a few femtoseconds to a few tens of picoseconds, an optical setup for processing the laser beam such that the beam is focused onto the target surface with an appropriate average energy density and an appropriate energy density distribution, and a vacuum chamber in which the target and the substrate are installed and the background gases and their pressures are appropriately adjusted.
Abstract:
A system and method update client computers of various end users with software updates for software products installed on the client computers, the software products manufacturered by diverse, unrelated software vendors. The system includes a service provider computer system, a number of client computers and software vendor computer systems communicating on a common network. The service provider computer system stores in an update database information about the software updates of the diverse software vendors, identifying the software products for which software updates are available, their location on the network at the various software vendor computer systems, information for identifying in the client computers the software products stored thereon, and information for determining for such products, which have software updates available. Users of the client computers connect to the service provider computer and obtain a current version of portions of the database. The client computer determines that software products stored thereon, and using this information, determines from the database, which products have updates available, based on product name and release information for the installed products. The user selects updates for installation. The selected updates are downloaded from the software vendor computer systems and installed on the client computer. Payment for the software update and the service is mediated by the service provider computer. Authentication of the user ensures only registered users obtain software updates. Authentication of the software updates ensures that the software updates are virus free and uncorrupted. Changes to the client computer during installation are monitored and archived, allowing the updates to be subsequently removed by the user.

Abstract:
An engine, system and method for a domain social network that interconnects Internet users with at least domains owned by or of interest to those Internet users, and that may obtain and/or forward obtained dynamic data regarding those domains automatically, such as by web service or email service. The dynamic data may be used to filter and protect content and data of the respective domains, to protect users by identifying low quality web pages or malicious software or pages, to isolate or improve search results regarding the domain, and/or to improve Internet-based transaction flow, such as the creation of advertising.
Abstract:
A method and a device for maintaining a Long Term Evolution (LTE) base station are provided by the embodiments of the present invention. Depending on the LTE access network system and air interface characteristics, by making a few processing flow changes in such mode or method, a wireless communication link is established between a network maintenance device and a base station to implement the base station maintenance and data communication. Application of the technical solutions provided by the embodiments of the present invention can implement the base station maintenance and data communication by the wireless mode, reduce the cost of the network maintenance and prevent the destruction and influence of human factors on the operation and maintenance of the base station.
