摘要: A wellbore completion design is provided, which creates a convective flow action that separates water and sand from hydrocarbons during production of the hydrocarbons from a subterranean formation. A deviated section of the wellbore creates the desired effect. The wellbore completion design may include a secondary bore, which intersects the deviated section of the wellbore at an acute angle, to accumulate the separated water and sand. An injection pump disposed in the toe section of the secondary bore can also be employed to pump the water back into the water containing portion of the subterranean formation. If solids are present in more than trace amounts, the toe section of the secondary bore may be formed at an acute angle to the remaining portion of the secondary bore to prevent blockage of the pump. Alternatively, a tertiary bore may be provided, so that the solids can accumulate in the secondary bore and the water can flow into the tertiary bore.

摘要: According to one embodiment of the invention, a flow switchable check valve includes a housing, a guide member having a bore extending therethrough disposed within the housing, and a poppet having a head and a stem. The head has an upstream surface engaged with a seating surface on the housing when the poppet is in a first position. A pin extends into a groove such that the pin follows a pattern of the groove when the poppet is translated within the housing. The pattern is configured to direct the poppet from the first position to a second position when a force is applied to the head, and further configured to direct the poppet from the second position to a third position when the force is removed from the head, in which the third position is downstream from the first position.

摘要: A slow rotating apparatus for use in performing downhole operations. The apparatus generally consists of a motor section with a rotor rotatable in response to fluid flow, a speed reducer section connected to the motor section such that an output speed of the speed reducer section is less than an output speed of the rotor, and a jetting section or other head attached to the speed reducer section and rotated thereby at the speed reducer output speed. A flow passage is defined through the speed reducer section so that fluid may communicate therefrom into the jetting head. The speed reducer section includes an input shaft attached to the rotor. The input shaft has an eccentric portion and has an input gear disposed about the eccentric portion. The input gear is a solid gear having a first outer geared surface and a second outer geared surface. The pitch diameter of the first outer geared surface is less than the pitch diameter of the second outer geared surface. A speed reducer body has a geared inner surface defined thereon in geared engagement with the first outer geared surface. A follower gear is disposed in the body and is in geared engagement with the second outer geared surface. Rotation of the input shaft causes the eccentric portion thereof to rotate in the input gear causing eccentric rotation of the input gear. Eccentric rotation of the input gear is translated into pure rotation by the follower gear which rotates the output shaft.

摘要: The present invention provides methods of delaying the destruction of a well as a result of the movement of a subsiding subterranean rock formation penetrated by the well bore. In accordance with the methods, a slot is cut into the subterranean formation in a direction opposite the direction of movement of the formation towards the well bore whereby the well bore extends through the slot as the subterranean formation moves.

摘要: A coplanar jetting head for well perforating. The apparatus comprises a housing defining a plurality of jetting openings therein. The jetting openings are substantially coplanar and are angularly disposed with respect to a longitudinal axis of the housing. Each of the jetting openings has a jetting nozzle disposed therein. In the preferred embodiment, the angle of the plane of the jetting openings is such that the plane may be positioned substantially perpendicular to an axis of least principal stress in a well formation adjacent to the well bore when the housing is disposed in the well bore. A method of fracturing a well is also disclosed and comprises the steps of positioning a jetting head in a well bore and directing a plurality of fluid jets from the jetting head at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the well bore.

摘要: A well jetting apparatus for use in fracturing of a well. Fracture initiation is provided by forming openings through the well casing and then forming fan-shaped slots in the formation surrounding the casing. Those slots are formed by a the jetting apparatus which has at least one hydraulic jet directed through the opening. The apparatus may be pivoted generally about the point of the opening to form the slots, but preferrably a plurality of slots are formed substantially simultaneously. These fan-shaped slots circumscribe an angle about the axis of the casing substantially greater than the angle circumscribed by the opening itself through which the slot was formed. These techniques are particularly applicable to fracturing of horizontal wells, but the apparatus may be used in any well configuration.

摘要: A surge enhanced cavitating jet for a fluid jetting system. The cavitating jet includes a nozzle portion having a conical throat followed by a fluid separating section. Immediately downstream from the separating section is a substantially cylindrical surge section. The length and inside diameter of the surge section are sized such that a minimum annular area is defined between the inside diameter of the surge section and the outside of the fluid stream as the fluid discharges from the cavitating jet such that cavitation is contained in the surge volume. The fluid stream does not impinge the inside diameter of the cavitating jet. A jetting system including a pump and valve is also disclosed.
