摘要: An image display apparatus for displaying images based on signals of an input image is provided. A backlight emits light. A liquid crystal panel modulates light emitted from the backlight. A emission intensity calculating unit calculates an emission intensity of the backlight such that a center value of a lightness range displayable on the panel defined depending on the emission intensity of the backlight substantially agrees with a center value between maximum and minimum values of lightness of each signal of the input image. A backlight controlling unit controls light emission of the backlight such that the light is emitted with the emission intensity. A signal correcting unit corrects each signal of the input image in accordance with the emission intensity. A liquid crystal controlling unit controls modulation of the liquid crystal panel based upon the corrected signals.

摘要: It is an object of the invention to provide an image display device for improving the image quality of moving images and still images displayed on a liquid crystal display device while controlling increase in power consumption. A liquid crystal panel for performing input image display and black image display at an arbitrary black display time ratio in one frame period, a movement detection unit for detecting a movement of the input image and outputting movement information, a display ratio control unit for fixing the black display time ratio based on the movement information, and a display brightness control unit for controlling brightness of the liquid crystal panel for one frame period to be substantially constant irrespective of the black display period are provided. The movement detection unit detects whether the input image is a moving image or a still image, and the display ratio control unit sets at least one transient black display time ratio between the black display time ratios for the moving image and the still image which is determined according to the result of the movement detection unit, so that the black display time ratio changes midway to the transient black display time ratio in the period when the black display time ratio is switched between the moving image and the still image.

The first substrate unit includes a first substrate and first electrodes. The first substrate has a first major surface. The first electrodes are provided on the first major surface, extend along a first direction, and have a first width in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The second substrate unit includes a second substrate and an opposing electrode. The second substrate has a second major surface opposed to the first major surface. The opposing electrode is provided on the second major surface. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first and second substrate units. The spacers are in contact with the liquid crystal layer. A diameter of each spacer is larger than the first width.

An angle between the polarizing axis and a second direction perpendicular to the first direction is greater than 0 degrees and less than 90 degrees. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first and second substrate units. An angle between a long-axis direction of the liquid crystal and the polarizing axis is greater than 0 degrees and less than the angle between the polarizing axis and the second direction.

摘要: According to one embodiment, an image display device includes a liquid crystal lens device and an image display unit. The liquid crystal lens device includes a liquid crystal optical element unit. The liquid crystal optical element unit includes a first substrate unit, a second substrate unit and a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first and second substrate units. The liquid crystal layer has an alignment twisted by an angle not less than 5 degrees and not more than 45 degrees along a normal axis of a major surface of the first substrate unit. The image display unit includes a display unit. The second substrate unit is disposed between the first substrate unit and the display unit.

摘要: The liquid crystal panel displays a video in a display area by modulating light from the backlight including a plurality of light sources. The luminance value calculator calculates light source luminance values of the light sources based on an input video signal including signal values of pixels. The luminance distribution calculator calculates luminance distribution of light in illumination areas obtained by tentatively dividing the display area if the light sources emit light according to the light source luminance values. The representative value calculator calculates, based on the input video signal, a representative luminance value in each of divided areas obtained by dividing the display area. The signal corrector corrects the input video signal based on the luminance distribution according to a difference between a maximum value of the representative luminance values and an average value of the representative luminance values.

摘要: According to one embodiment, a parallax image generating apparatus is for generating, using a first image, a parallax images with a parallax therebetween. The apparatus includes following units. The first estimation unit estimates distribution information items indicating distributions of first depths in the first image by using first methods. The distribution information items falls within a depth range to be reproduced. The first combination unit combines the distribution information items to generate first depth information. The second calculation unit calculates second depth information indicating relative unevenness of an object in the first image. The third combination unit combines the first depth information and the second depth information by using a method different from the first methods, to generate third depth information. The generation unit generates the parallax images based on the third depth information and the first image.

The light guide plate is formed with plural diffusion portions that diffuse light from the light source. The light beam controller is configured to emit plural linear light beams. The light beam controller emits the linear light beams that extend in a third direction tilted with respect to the second direction. The light guide plate has a first region in which the diffusion portions are formed in the third direction and a second region in which no diffusion portions are formed, the first region and the second region being arranged alternately in the first direction.
