摘要: A composition and an improved method for treating aqueous systems to prevent the accumulation of mineral scale and corrosion which comprises adding to the aqueous system a treatment solution comprising 2 phosphonobutane 1,2,4 tricarboxylic acid and a quad-polymer that includes four discrete monomers (specifically allyloxybenzenesulfonic acid, methallyl sulfonic acid, a copolymerizable non-ionic monomer and an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer). The composition and method allow the use of higher cycles of concentration, including aqueous systems having calcite saturation indices (CSI) of more than 200, while inhibiting the formation of calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, magnesium silicate, and iron scales.

摘要: A cooling system for use with high-powered x-ray tubes. The cooling system includes a reservoir containing liquid coolant, in which the high-powered x-ray tube is partially immersed. In general, the liquid coolant is cooled and then circulated through the reservoir by an external cooling unit. The cooling system also includes a shield structure attached to the vacuum enclosure of the high-powered x-ray tube and disposed substantially about the aperture portion of the vacuum enclosure, thereby defining a flow passage proximate to the aperture portion. Liquid coolant supplied by the external cooling unit enters the flow passage by way of an inlet port in the shield structure. After passing through the flow passage and transferring heat out of the aperture portion, the liquid coolant is discharged through an outlet port in the shield structure and enters the reservoir to repeat the cycle.

摘要: A method of simulating individualized art instruction is provided. The method utilize a CD compact disc playable on a CD-I compact disc player hooked up to a television. Each edition of a compact disc showcases a well-known instructor and background information. The actual instructor does the voice over, giving instructions at each step. Next, a substantially perfectly lit image appears; this image is a view of the object of study (i.e., the model, the still life, the landscape). Then, a completed painting of said object appears, the completed painting having been executed by the instructor. The screens contain step-by-step images of different stages of completion. At each screen, the instructor talks about what he or she is doing and why. The instructor can relate the actual colors and fundamental techniques used. By having a simulated method of individualized art instruction, the student is free to avoid the use of electronic keyboards and video display screens for creating a piece of computer generated artwork. In contrast, the method allows the student to create a painting by using traditional tools of the trade, such as paint, paintbrushes, a canvas and an easel, while accessing a simulated art lessons on a video display screen.

摘要: A portable validation unit for an electronic gaming system, particularly a BINGO system. The validation unit communicates through a serial data interface with a base station of the gaming system to receive a serial number defining a particular validation unit and corresponding employee, and further receives a validation code defining a particular gaming schedule. As the gaming schedule is played on electronic BINGO cards, wins of each game are validated by connecting a validation unit to an electronic card to ensure that the card has a matching validation code stored therein for the current gaming schedule and is indicating a winning sequence of called numbers. If there is no winning indication, then the validation unit sounds one of two audible tunes depending upon whether the validation codes match. In response to a matching validation code and win indication, the validation unit will sound another short recognizable audible tune indicating a win. If a BINGO card contains provision for more than one type of win, such as an instant BINGO, then different tunes are used to distinguish between win types. There is additionally provided circuitry for transferring a win record stored in a BINGO card to the validation unit during the validation process. Another aspect of the validation unit provides for sounding another distinguishable audible tune if the validation unti memory is full instead of transferring a record. At the end of the gaming schedule, the validation unit is adapted to transfer the win records to the base station during an audit process.

摘要: A gaming board for matching symbols which are selected at random with symbols stored in the board to form a selected pattern, particularly where the symbols are numbers and the pattern is a plurality of elements of a 5.times.5 array. The gaming board when used for a BINGO game receives a schedule of a gaming session permitting a plurality of independent games, each with a number of win levels and payout places. A load mode is used to randomly input numbers for selectable BINGO cards which are then played during the independent games in a play mode. A set time for loading the BINGO cards into the gaming board is maintained by a counter which, when expired, automatically loads random numbers into those cards which have not been filled. A three tier power conservation and security operation is used to control the power supplies of the gaming board. Initially, the gaming board can only be powered on by connection to a system base station and turns itself off upon command from the system base station. During operation, an elapse of a predetermined interval without a key activation will power down the display and an elapse of a longer interval without a key actuation will power down the gaming board requiring reconnection to the base station.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing an insulated joint between electrical conductors, particularly between cables insulated by cross-linked polyethylene material. Heat is applied to joined parts of the conductors which have been covered by a cross-linked polyethylene material in uncured condition and closely confined within an enclosure which is heated until the said material is cured, pressure being applied to the joint while the joint is cooling, whereby voids in the cured joint are substantially suppressed. More specifically, parts of cable cores are connected together, the joint and adjacent portions of the cables are covered with the uncured material, the covered joint is heated within a mould until the material is cured, and pressure is applied to the joint while it is cooling. Advantageously, the uncured material is in the form of a tape. The mould cavity for the joint may be defined by two mould parts and the pressure applied by moving one of them in relation to the other. Alternatively the pressure may be applied by pistons slidable in cylinders communicating with the cavity. In either case the pressure may be applied through spring means.

摘要: An elastic resistance type exercising device having a single length of latex rubber surgical tubing whose two ends are formed into size handle loops by the use of leather fasteners. The handle loops are sleeved with vinyl tubing, and plugs are inserted in each of the open ends of tubing, that have twice passed through the fasteners to form the loops, to prevent the tubing from being pulled out of the fasteners. A user grasps the handle loops or secures them about his ankles and pulls against the elastic resistance. Two additional flexible sleeves are slidably mounted over the portion of the elastic tubing between the fasteners.

摘要: Machine-implemented methods and computer systems are disclosed for determining a collective outcome for a survey from a plurality of potential outcomes. Each outcome is a particular combination of options. Each survey participant ranks the options to develop an influent function. For each participant, the influent function is applied to each potential outcome to determine a satisfaction score for the outcome. A collective dissonance score is calculated based on the participants' satisfaction scores for the potential outcome. The potential outcomes are ordered based on a weighted combination of the satisfaction scores and the collective dissonance score for each of the potential outcomes. In particular embodiments, the methods and systems aim to determine a collective outcome that achieves greatest satisfaction and minimizes dissonance among the participants.
