摘要： A physical structure suitable for a recording medium such as a BD, and a method and apparatus for recording data in the recording medium using the physical structure are disclosed. The recording medium includes an inner area, a data area, and an outer area. The recording medium includes a test area contained in at least one of the inner area and the outer area, and a management area for storing a position information indicating a position available for testing in the test area, wherein the position information includes a start position of first data unit available for testing and a position of second data unit available for testing, wherein one or more second data units comprise first data unit. Therefore, the recording medium can be applied to a method for manufacturing a BD, and a disc test process and data recording/reproducing operations can be effectively performed.

The control information including at least one information unit for a specific writing speed and recording layer. The information unit includes write strategy parameters for first write strategy type to be used for the writing speed and recording layer, the first write strategy type being one of an n−1 write strategy type and an n/2 write strategy type, where n is a length of mark and each type represents a number of write pulse to form a corresponding mark. A writing/reading unit records the control information at a specific area of a recording medium, wherein the controller controls the writing/reading unit to record the control information and to record the main data on the recording layer using write strategy parameters for the first write strategy type included in the information unit, at the specific writing speed.

A high-density multi-layer optical disc such as a Blu-ray disc rewritable (BD-RE) dual layer includes management information, additionally recorded in a lead-in area, needed for identifying formatting status of a plurality of recording layers. After the management information is referred to, at least one unformatted recording layer is automatically formatted. Optionally, the unformatted recording layer is formatted on the basis of a formatting method selected by a user. The multiple recording layers formed on the high-density multi-layer optical disc can be conveniently and effectively formatted.

摘要： A high-density optical disc, a method for encrypting data and recording the encrypted data thereon, and a method for reproducing the encrypted data recorded thereon. Data recorded on a high-density optical disc such as a Blu-ray disc-read only memory (BD-ROM) is recorded in a discontinuous recording format as on a high-density rewritable optical disc such as a Blu-ray disc rewritable (BD-RE). Data can be encrypted and recorded using synchronous data, address unit number (AUN) information or disc radius information recorded in the high-density optical disc. An optical disc apparatus such as a BD-ROM player can maintain reproduction compatibility with the high-density rewritable optical disc such as the BD-RE. A user holding an optical disc apparatus such as a BD-RE recorder, etc. can be prevented from unlawfully copying data recorded on the high-density optical disc and reproducing the copied data.

摘要： An apparatus for reproducing data from a recording medium, including a reading unit configured to read control information from a specific area of the recording medium, the control information including playback speed information and a maximum transfer rate information specifying a maximum transfer rate needed by an application. The playback speed information is distinguished from the maximum transfer rate information and the playback speed is for suitably reproducing main data from the recording medium. Also included is a controller configured to control the reading unit and the recording medium with respect to driving and servo control in order to reproduce the main data recorded on a main data area of the recording medium in response to the playback speed information and/or the maximum transfer rate information.
